I tried a long post and nobody responded, so I'll try a very simple one:

What version of iSimple is recommended for the 05 TL with Navi? I would like to be able to play podcasts, and if I can use my steering wheel controls to run them, even better.

I suppose I should mention that I bought the car with some version of iSimple already installed, but it is an older version that does not support the iPhone, and I'm not technically inclined to be able to get to the back of the radio and see what version it is (I've tried as much as I could, and I'm not about to take apart the center console - I'd never get it back together again).

And that is why I'm confused, because the iSimple website recommends the ISHD571 when I put in my make and model for the gateway. What am I missing?

 

The 571 and the Isim73 are the same unit. The Isim73 was renamed to be sold at bestbuy. You can get the Isim73 off ebay for a fraction of the cost of the 571. Just make sure you have the latest firmware.

i just ordered the iSIM73 for $18 shipped on ebay. There's bunch of open box and refurbs on there.

 

All of the isim73 listed on eBay say for iPod. Will they work with the iPhone without the annoying popup saying that it is not made for this product? And will it charge the iPhone?

I contacted isimple customer service about my situation and they sent me an upgraded isimple with the Apple authorization chip for 30 dollars and it works without a problem. I can set it up for either ipod control (the car controls everything) or manual control (the steering wheel can change tracks, but otherwise I control it from my iphone. I use it with downcaster and listen to podcasts and have not had a problem in the 4 weeks I've had it.

 

So your problem was the unit didn't work with your iPhone, and the firmware update didn't fix the issue? Do you know the unit model that customer service upgraded you to?

 

pererau - what model did they send you? I am curious, as I called iSimple today about my problem (steering wheel control stopped working) and they told me the same (for 30 bucks they will send me an upgraded iSimple unit).
