Ok well, i just installed the JBL MS-8, and it sounds great but i would like a better sub for more bass. I can hear that my stock system is being pushed to it's limit so its time for a change.
I am looking for a sub that can work well with my factory amp but that it would hit hard and rumble well. I dont know which one to choose.
The MS-8 has a built in amp plus the factory amp, well they are pushing hard.
Choice one. Polk MM840

Choice two. JL W3V4

Last one. JL W1V24

If someone knows of a better sum, please let me know.
Looking for it to fit the stock location and for it to be a drop in sub.

Not like i'm trying to sell you something but i would not recommend anything bigger in that location then the stock sub. The sheet metal is not that strong to support anything bigger, even the stock sub rattles the area crazy when turned all the way. By having all the rattles which suck to begin with you will get wave cancellations also.

do yourself a favor and get a box with a sub that those not require a large sealed box enclosure. Get a good amp and hide it in the back. i started just like you and ended up spending a lot more money because it was not satisfying. i even went with a basslink which was very dissapointed.
Your NEVER going to get those low Hz tones with a free-air 8" sub in the stock location...especially off our little factory amp. I understand you don't want 2 12's and a massive ported box, etc in your trunk but if you got a single 8" or 10" in small sealed/ported box...it would work wonders for you and hardly take up any trunk space. Check out the Sundown SA-8 if you want a little sub that packs a punch. Look on craigslist for a cheap but decent mono amp or 4 channel and be on your way! Some said you've got a processor......like I always say....your system is only as good as your weakest component. It doesn't matter if you processes the hell out of that signal if its coming through shitty components and a little free-air sub.
Here are a few options in 8's:
Sundown SA-8
Sound Solutions Audio
Soundsplinter
DD 1508
JL
Audioque
Image Dynamics (SQ)

If you've spent the money on a MS8 processor, you should definitely look into investing a little more into an amplifier, sub and enclosure ... you have to be respectful to your MS8 lolll From what I read, free-air subs are just not comparable to enclosed subs ... you can still stick to a reasonable budget with efficient use of space
Do it the way you want to. But, from an audio nut's perspective, you won't be very satisfied. Truely you'd be smarter to run a stealth enclosure with a single 10" sub rather than trying to make something out of the stock location.
Borrowed this from Ron_C1

Tasteful, simple, and trunk is fully funtional.
Get in touch with Uncald4.. he built an enclosure similar to the one above but for an 8" OR a fiberglass enclosure made for shallow mount subs like the Polk MM can mount under the rear deck.
Enclosure will be $$ though.
Enclosure will be $$ though.
the biggest threat you will be facing is rattles.I used two layers of dynamat and 3s two by four's, fibergalss to make my subwoofer sound better and insulating foam sealant to fill all gaps between trunk and inside of the car. ID sub needs 3-4 weeks to brake in.

When i was installing i thought to make few, but since everybody here thinks, that free air sub is bullsh** i nerver did.
I think the ID sub would be a good choice, but you really need more amplifier power. Neither amp (factory or MS-8) will properly power the sub. You may get a little extra bass, but it wont be much more than you have now. The reason the ID subs work well is because they can use very little power (one of few out there) and still sound good. You will need to Dynamat the rear deck and still may get rattles. The stealth box idea is a good one as well, but you WILL need to get another amp if you are going that route. I am a dealer for Image Dynamics (as well as other high end brands) if you would like to buy new.
if you will hook up aditional amp to subwoofer installed in rear shelf you will get too much rattles, i would not do that... just buy sub for now, you can get it for 120$ new with free shipping. Give it a month, and you will see improvement in your audio system, I was suprised that it is going so lowwww. If you will not like it, you always can go different way...
i cannot believe you got a Ms8 with a oem stock speakers. i don't think it worth it. Start upgrading the speakers and the sub. 2 decent amp and you;ll have a really good system
if he place a stronger aftermark sub in the 8" hole he will get massive rattle because of the thin metal layers suppost to hold the sub. it was never design for any other sub and the stock sub does not produce enough bass to cause rattle. even with dynamat, foam or wherever you use you will still get rattle. (this was part of my nightmare)
niebur3 - the closest matching carpet that I used for my amp rack is the trunk carpet from, believe it or not, WalMart. Very easy to work with.
Sorry I do not have pics right now. My trunk liner and back seats are out and all you see is sound deadener and metal.

That's what the MS8 was intended for. JBL says that it needs nothing else to make the stock system sound awesome. I know i sound like a totally convinced customer but i didn't want to do a whole system upgrade.
JBL made that thing to improve oem sound system, and keep everything stock, including speakers.

JL's are power hungry...
i will show to how it sounds
