Well i suggest you go to the URL here and hear it directly from Mr. Valentine. And i strongly recommend getting a Valentine Product. You will love it. IMHO Escort is a piece of shit... Ah felt good gettin that off my chest.

I have a Solo. It makes a funny sound. Barely audible, but annoying just the same. I called and they told me it ws normal. They said someting about it "cycling". I have a Passport SRX remote detector in my TL now. Very expensive, but a great detector!

Don't buy a cordless if you're concerned about range. Nothing beats an externally powered product, though the S2 is pretty good as far as cordless detectors go. If you're going to buy an Escort, buy the 8500, particularly if you are concerned about POP radar in your area. I really recommend the V1, though, if you can swing it.

Moving to BT/navi/audio/video...

Well, gee - after an insightful and well researched opinion like that, we now know what your "HO" is worth.

I own an Escort 8500 X50 and a Solo S2. Both are quite excellent at what they do. Here are some things to consider:

(1) Are you looking for ultimate sensitivity? If you are, The new 8500 X50 edges out the competition for now in the very important Ka band. The Valentine is also very good, but not quite as sensitive and with less effective false signal filtering.

If you want to see an unbiased shoot-out test instead of some manufacturer's hype, check out: www.speedzones.com. Quoting from the Speedzones site:

The “Top Dog” of radar detectors in the Over $300.00 price category goes to Escort’s X50 for the following reasons. It was the only detector to report constant on and instant on radar over the hill at the 2 1/2 mile cone. It consistently alerted to MPH’s Bee III POP mode. It was one of only two of the six detectors tested to be invisible to the new Spectre III RDD and it tied in the Long Ranger test alerting at an astounding eleven miles from the radar guns.
Obviously, the Escort is quite "a piece of shit".

The X50 has also been able to pick up photo radar better than any of my previous detectors. Photo Radar is very difficult to pick up, and the X50 occasionally misses - but it still gives me better warning than I've seen in the past (about 1/4 mile alert)

(2) Is convenience more important to you than sensitivity? The Solo S2 is the best out there for now. It still fits comfortably in your pocket when you need to take it out of the car, and runs for a couple of months of daily use on a set of batteries (about 1 hour average travel per day).

I really liked the display on the Solo S2 - informative, classy, and more subtle.

However, the Solo S2 doesn't pick up photo radar reliably (which is why I bought the X50 a few months later). If photo radar isn't being used in your area, this may not be a big concern.

You can also plug the Solo S2 into your car outlet for significantly better scanning capabilities. But if you are going to do that, why not buy the X50 or V1?

(3) If you think that getting an idea of where the cop is located is important to you, then you will want to purchase the V1. However, once you become familiar with the Escort products, you can get some of the directional information by just listening to the detector - but not as quickly as the V1. If you are hearing the alerts at approximately the same level for an extended period of time, the police officer is probably travelling the same direction you are. If the alert just pops on weakly for long stretches of road, the officer is probably behind you, and you are getting radar signal reflections off the cars ahead of you.

I would find the directional arrows to be more of an unwanted distraction instead of a feature. Right now, when my detector goes off, my instant response is to go to the brake pedal and slow down. Depending on the strength and type of the alert (discernable by the beep type), I will adjust my rate of braking (which has been pretty hard sometimes). I don't have to look at my detector at all - just respond. If I had directional arrows, I would start looking at my detector more (when I get an alert) to see where it is coming from - slowing my response time by a second or two. Depending on where the officer is, I may regret wasting that time some day.

I only read like 15% of your post and then went to the link that you mentioned and they have photographs of the three radar detectors on the windshield at the same time. You are not supposed to do that because V1 and maybe some others are super heterodyne radar detectors which means thay are very sensitive to other circuitries (like that of other radars in very close proximity) and can pick up false alarms that way. Im not defending the V1 by making that statement but thats the dummest thing to do while comparing radar detectors like these in the first place. Next there are so many websites that i would consider libelous or maybe paid for by Passport Escort that actually tell you how bad the V1 really is. So really i could care less how many websites are running these tests and what kind of results they are coming up with. As long as the tests are not done by you at home, im satisfied with the results of the V1.
And well the directional arrows are very helpful, i react when i hear an alarm and then take my time to notice whether its front or back, and they are without a doubt very accurate. Well i dont care which radar u like, You could think the V1 is crap and thats fine with me. I still support my last post though.
Not to mention so many radar detectors plan obsolescence so i would really look out.
The V1 is pricey, but delivers what it promises.
The V1 looks better than any other detector (you might agree). It looks bad ass.

recently i purchased the 8500 x50 i havn't gotten it in the mail yet but the only thing i hate about them is the cord you plug into the lighter adapter because it looks very messy to see a wire hanging down from your windshield and into an adapter and i may want to use them even though there are 3, i plan on getting an iCarPlay for my ipod so i can play it through the radio that takes up one, and i have a phone cord charger that takes up 2 and then the radar detector which is 3 i can easily just switch these if needed but i still like to have a clean cut look. as for the radar detector does anyone have pictures of what it looks like hanging in your windshield with the wires hanging off? are there any other alternative places to put this...ive seen pictures of people putting them on the passanger side console section....any thoughts?
