What phone do you recommend?

I have a Motorola V400 (Cingular) and want to replace it with a Bluetooth phone. Any suggestions? I want whatever has the best combination of sound and signal. I'm thinking about a V600, but I'd like to skip the camera to keep the phone smaller.

I'll stick with Cingular. They have the best coverage by far in my area and I still have a year left on my contract. I figured I'll buy an unlocked phone off of ebay or something.

Unlocked one for sure. Also, you may find a phone which better utilize Cingular/AT&T's dual band system (850/1900). But if you find a phone you really prefer, dual-band-system is unnecessary. If you like to switch over to T-Mobile next year, GSM1900 is needed.

Lots of phones are available for Cingular GSM system. I prefer to use Sony Ericsson phones, IMO.

Good luck.

Check out the Sony Ericsson K700i if you can, I just got it a month ago. Light, well featured, and fully compatible w/ the TL. My previous phone was the Motorola V878, one of the lightest full feature phones around minus BT, so I had to do a replacement that way. I'd have to say the Sony is very nicely done, got it from ebay for about $3 bills brand new.

The Moto v551 is a great phone, plus it has EDGE if you want fast data. Moto phones send the signal strength, but not the battery life to the MID.

I agree with Joe. The V551 is a great phone and I upgraded to it from the V400 and I'm happy. Acura has a list of supported phones

Good Luck

Any price range...? If not, I recommend a Sony Ericsson V800.

Ouch! $859 on ebay! I'm thinking something more Homer Simpson and less Montgomery Burns.

Oh wow, price has dropped a bit. I need to update my own list. If size is your thing, then I would recommend the Sony Ericsson K700i...works flawlessly with HFL. I know someone selling their's for around $250 which is $50 cheaper than anyone else on the net.

Thanks. I'll check out the K700i and V551. The Motorola would be nice because I can use my current chargers and accessories with it. But the K700i looks pretty sweet too.

Its also a $600 dollar phone... for that much, I'd snag a used SE P910a...of course having it work with HFL is another day at the rainy park. Besides, Motorola is coming out with a candy bar version of the RAZR...oh and they're releasing a black one too. For the $2-300 price range, I'd aim for the SE K700i or Motorola V551 in particular order.

^^^^ yea I saw the black version pics on the howardforums. They seemed to be giving to Oscar presenter and winners. Not for sale. Also the brushed black coating did not look good in the pics. Mobilezen, where can I read more for the bar version of V3?

I think the price on V3 will go down soon. However, I got one for $150 with two lines transfer on Cingular. It's unlocked though and I love it with my black cellskin and martinfield protectors

One of my friend got P900 in the Bay area for $300 in some shop. But kindda big for my taste and already have my PDA. Though a very nice PDA/Phone that is.

I hope they don't make the black V3 cause if they do, that will bring down the overall value of the phone. However, I highly doubt the price of the handset will drop because of its exclusivity. Just like the Nokia 8890, this phone has an aluminum casing. Ah well.

Go with the Motorola v620, it's awesome. Great signal, bluetooth works flawlessly, has the higher quality color screen, and in Black, it looks a lot better than the 551.

Get the Nokia 6230; it has absolutely every feature you could imagine and it's very small and light with an internal antenna. Also- FREE with rebate on Amazon right now. I've had it for about 3 weeks and it works flawlessly with the BT in the TL.

Oh, and you can unlock the 6230 for $2.99 without a cable. It's a piece of cake to unlock Nokia phones and you can get the codes from any one of hundreds of sites on the internet for less than $5. I've already unlocked mine; it took all of 30 seconds and $2.99 out of my pocket.

I have the Sony Ericsson phone as well, and I love it!=) It's pretty sleek looking, and though it has a camera, the size is still pretty small!

The SE T637 is a great phone with a perfect HFL integration. Shows both the signal strength and the battery meter.

My gf had the T637 from Cingular but since she didn't like all the Cingular customizations, I was the nice bf and took it all off.

I was just looking at the T637. It looks pretty much like the T700i with a lower resolution screen. That works for me since it's a hundred bucks less!

I had the SE T637. The phone works great, but the batery life is short, I need to re-charge every 3 days. And the plastic screen is a bit fragile. mine has developed a small crack at a corner.

Modeler,
That is because Verizon uses CDMA. GSM phones (Cingular ATT) can last a lot longer than CDMA (Sprint, VZW)

Actually, that's only partially true. There are some CDMA phones that have a good battery life, but Verizon just chooses their phone inventory in such a way that 90% of their phones have crappy battery life!

If you haven't done any upgrading to your firmware...that helps just a tad.
