Question What do you think of this stereo setup/price?

Hey guys,

So I have finally decided to take the plunge into redoing the audio in my car. As of now, I just had a subwoofer and amp set up, but have decided to do my front stage as well. I have gotten a quote from a reputable installer and am wondering if this is the way to go, considering that I have already purchased my amp/sub combo. Also keep in mind, I plan on only doing the front speakers since I am usually the only one in the car.

Things I already have:
Amp: JL HD900/5
Sub: JL 12W6v2
Box: Uncald4 style trunk side box

Here is the deal he is giving me:
Audison Bit 10 $399
6.5" Hertz Mille (No crossovers since it will be running an active setup) Tweeter and Midrange $599
Complete Sound deadening each door (Door panel included), Inclusing material $250 / each door
Install Front Speakers and Bit 10 $680
Tune Bit 10 and set up 3 hrs $245

Looks like its gonna run me $2500, not including the amp/sub/box that I already have purchased.

Let me know if you guys think the pricing is fair. I have been to these guys for my remote start systems on two cars, and he has given me quite a deal on my amp about a year ago.

The prices on parts are average but they're not doing you any favors. The labor is crazy unless they're doing lots of custom work which they aren't. Find another place or do it yourself.

Also look at the Dynaudio 242 set in the same price range. Theres also a 362 set for sale right now half price if you want to attempt a 3 way and 8" midbass. I have yet to hear anything more realistic or anything that will handle a ton of power while retaining great SQ like Dyns will.

Also, good choice on the sub and amp but if you're going for sq and power efficiency, putting that W6 in a larger box will really help. The 12W6 really needs a 1.5' box minimum with 1.7 or more preferred. It will sound better and require less power.

Here's my personal opinion

You already have a 900/5, which can accept our balanced signal and run full active I believe. I would pick up a nice set of 2-ways (or 3-way if you want a little more work, though I think 2-way since you're not installing) and you'll be good to go. When you learn more about car audio and the tuning process, you can install the Audison Bit.1, MS-8, 360.2 , etc and do it all yourself. The price of a component install and installation of the amp shouldn't be more than $150 or so. Deadening isn't hard either, but it can be time consuming. So I'd say paying $350 for materials and install is about right. Otherwise..I'd do it myself.

That's $500 install and whatever components you choose. That will be plenty for you. And if you want more, then add a processor or whatever you feel is needed to fill the void, though it shouldn't need it.

If I'm reading that right, they want $500 to deaden the doors.

Then they're charging $680 to install the speakers and Bit 10.

On top of that, nearly $300 to set up the Bit 10.

That's around $1,400 labor to deaden two doors and install speakers and a processor.

On top of that some of the labor is the same. You have to remove and install the speakers in order to deaden the door. You have to run the power and ground and signal for an amp so it's already there for the processor. You would think they would knock some of that labor off.

Maybe I read it wrong but it looks like they're trying to charge $1,400 labor to do a basic install. The $680 alone to install speakers and processor and labor to do the deadening is too much IMO. At the quoted prices you can bet they're making a few hundred off of the sale of equipment as well.

You guys are all right, the install prices I thought were ridiculous. However, the price he is giving me for the speakers is really good considering it retails around $1099 with a crossover. Im going to call him again and find out. Ive already had two remote starts installed by him for fair price, and have saved quite a bit on my amp and box from him. Thanks for the advice guys.

As for me doing the install, I honestly have never paid anyone to do my installs on anything except for my remote start. For some reason, the installation of a processor, and front speakers in this car is really intimidating me. Is anyone around the boston area that could maybe help me out with the install?
