What direction is best to face the sub speaker??

I picked up a custom enclosed box completly sealed with a single 12 inch sub. It is going to be powered low with a 450 watt amp. My question is, should I mount it in the trunk so the sub is facing towards the cabin just behind the open compartment? Should I aim it 180 degrees and point it toward the rear trunk lid? 90 degrees either left or right of the trunk? I am just trying to get the most amount of bass into the cabin with the least amount of unwanted noise.

Thanks in advance guys!

I'd point it toward the cabin.

Thats what I thought but I have been reading a few threads and have been seeing different opinions about unwanted noise and such. I know my house sub is in a corner and the port hole is pointing towards the corner but this is a SEALED box with no port hole so I am in need of some expert advice on this.

***Also Stereo buffs- I have two amps 1000 watt 4 channel and a 450 watt for the sub. Both gains are about midway. Do I need a capacitor with this or will I survive without it? Sound any better? Better for my Alternator?

I'd have it at the rear pointed towards the rear.. negative on the cap. Dynamat rear shelf is a definite. If anything you should move it around and see what works best for you.

facing it to the rear will help reduce cancellations making it a little louder....

where as...

facing the seats will introduce cancellations making it sound a lil off and it won't be as loud...

as for amp and cap question...

a cap doesn't do dick...don't waste your money...upgrade your battery...and all power flow under the hood...what some people refer to as the big three...

now if you would like to get technical...

look at the fuses on all the amps and add them up...tell me what you get...

Thanks guys!

Jason, for a young guy, you sure have some impressive knowledge on this stuff. Thanks for spreading the knowledge to me.

I have read a lot about tapping the signal always after the amp since our radios have such a weak signal as it is. I have used locs and tapped after the amp.

In a thread I saw you post, when you solder pre amp wires in, always do it before the amp, otherwise you can damage the aftermarket amp. Am I ok since I am using locs? I have no noise issues and ran the wires away from my main 4 gauge power cming in from my battery. The locs have pots on them that can be adjusted if needed.

Interesting thoughts guys. I've had just about every style of box. Wasn't until I bought this car that I went sealed. My subs are facing the rear of the car. I need some dynamat pretty bad but even with that, I doubt it will resolve the beating my trunk is taking with two dual coil 12's running 1000 RMS each lol.

you are to use LOC's on speaker leads...this steps down the voltage to a usable voltage for amplifier pre-amps...also if you look inside the LOC's you'll circuity to isolate the grounds...

i'd remove the LOC's and direct solder to the low level signal before the amp...
