What is the best position of the sub
Ive always concentrated more on the looks of the system and how everything would blend in and look as clean as possible. I had the sub center rear firing and currently firing trough the ski pass. To be honest i think that there is so much cancellation going on that the sub actually sounds bad in my opinion, I'm just not happy enough or I might be to picky i don't know.
Anyways i never really took everything apart and just played with the position of the sub to find the best sound from it. I have a 12" boston acoustics G5 in a sealed to specs box.
what is everyones thought on the position where the sub sounds best, I'm all the way into sound quality. dont care where it gets the loudest.

I went through this before I did the bandpass setup. Mine seemed a little cleaner facing forward but sitting back from the seats a little. As CSW said, you're creating a sort of weird bandpass effect having them facing the seats. When facing the trunk, bass was louder and deep but seemed muddy. I wanted a combo of both sounds which is why I ditched the traditional box altogether.
I know about the miracle box
but im not sure of the displacement for my Driver
and the box does get a little bit big for my taste. I gotta take it a apart and play with it... to see if i can get it where im happy with it if not ill revert to stock as even that sounded more balanced then this.

There was a difference in mine facing forward whether I had them up against the seat or all the way back but facing forward. I personally perferred all the way to the back of the trunk but facing forward. It seemed to be the best compromise.
Have you contacted the manufacturer about a bandpass? My specs are straight from JL and they worked great. Just tell them what kind of sound you're looking for and the dimensions of the ski pass through in the seat.
I also was wondering this question, as I am in the middle of upgrading my system. I dont want a lot of trunk rattling, i want a much cleaner, punchier sound. I am going for overall SQ rather than just loudness. I am working on the front end first. I am putting in Image dynamics components in the front, a 3sixty.2 and using a PDX-5 amp. not doing myself as I don't have the time to install right now.

To properly set up a sub in a home system you put the sub box where you would normally sit. Walk around the room and see where it sounds best. Usually a corner or close to it. Put the sub in that corner and enjoy from your seat. Sound travels the same in both directions. In a car this is a little tricky. If the sub box is small enough put it in the front seat (yes this sounds crazy), lock your self in the trunk and see where the bass sounds the best.

Wow. So simple yet I've never thought about it. Great idea.
i think the best way is to put the sub in the trunk and in the rear center just put a voice speaker instead of the sub.....this way u got all the voice in the car.....thats the way i have it in my car and it sound really good
