Viper 5901 remote start

My search function is not working. It says server encountered internal error. So, I'm wondering.... To remote or not to remote. That is the question........ OR the answer. 2 way lcd paging, interior temp control set plus lots of other features and options. $210 for the unit, $29 for the transponder and $200 for the install. What do the senior and junior members think about their Viper units? Solutions or problems for our fine chariots? Thanks.....

no they dont......no alarm/remote starter voids anything if done correctly with or without a bypass unit and done with solder. the reason i say solder is because it strengthens the contact and doesnt give room for errors.

I just got mine today. I'm extremely happy with what I've seen so far. Although, I do have to get them to do something with my temperature sensor. For some reason, I don't believe the reading it's currently giving.

It's showing 55 degrees and the car has been home and outside in 26 degree (windchill drops it to 13 degrees) weather for 3 hours.

In any case, I purchased most of my parts on Ebay and had it installed at Best Buy
Yes ... I know everyone hates Best Buy, but frankly, I can't risk one of the smaller shops around me going out of business when/if I need to take my car back and I don't trust my own competency when it comes to installing this type of equipment.
In any case, I got the parts for around ~$350 (Viper 5901, Tilt Sensor, Glass Break Sensor), and installation (w/ Pkall bypass) for ~$450.

Overall, the features I got were as follows:
  • Defroster (engages front, mirror, rear by remote or when cabin temperature is under 45 degrees for 8 minutes)
  • Window Roll up / Down (two separate aux input)
  • Glass Break sensor
  • Tilt Sensor

Good luck with yours :-)

Pacific Stereo, an authorized dealer, per VIPER. $209.95 for the Viper 5901 retails for $599.99, their newest security/remote start, plus 29.95 for a TL transponder. FREE SHIP. I'm having it installed at Best Buy also for $200.00. Another authorized dealer for Viper and that covers both install warranty and product warranty. I spoke with several people that have this unit and they really seemed to enjoy it. Read up on some of the reviews. I should be getting mine soon. "SCOTTY, I need more power"

My buddy has the Viper 5901 on his Honda and just loves it. Didn't somebody post up a nice "remote starter install" DIY somewhere? Is our Search working yet ?

It sells for ~ $220 on amazon and best-buy will install it for $200.

Take a look at my thread "Very Detailed Install of Viper 5901" and do it yourself. I listed every wire you need to land plus my costs. Dont know what modules you are planning on buying for remote start and door locks but the ones I bought are made by DEI just like the viper is. Highly recommend them. Save your installation costs do it yourself!

I have had mine installed in my 08 tl for a couple months now and love it. Yes I agree with someone earlier that the temperature feedback from car is 20 degrees off. I just dont use it.

I love cliffords combo units.....ive been installing those for quite sometime now and i havent had one issue with them....the presets are pretty much perfect once you know your buttons....the vipers tend to be cunts at times but they do the job...anyway u look at it...its still all DEI..... but the cliffords temp reading is actually very accurate.....DEI bypass modules are great no issues with those but another personal favorite is...ifar.ca fortin modules are insane as well.

Thanks JCJC2U. Any idea if the 2008 wiring would be the same as 2005? I'm not a wire expert when it comes to cars and would rather have someone, who has done this past, do the install.

Best-Buy says $200 (if I got all the parts). I'd rather make an offer to an Acurazine member before I settle with Best-Buy.

Never really had an alarm or remote start, besides factory alarm..

For one, my alarm goes off when i hit remote start.. So car does start but also alarm goes off... kinda anoying.. i have to unarm and arm...

Another issue i'm having.. when i turn off the engine and leave the lights on, walk away, the lights go off.. If i leave the lights on, walk away, then remote start, everything goes on the way i would want it to.. but then if turn off engine using remote my lights don't go off.. also very frustrating..

Not too happy with the install itself.. After i got car back, my ABS light was on... then i was driving around, for a while, and at one point was just standing chatting, and my TCS light went on.. And i already had SRS light for about a month..

So now i have like 3 lights on my instrumental.. and having any light on this just ticks me off like hell... and there i am driving around all pissed off lol

Tripnbeats - Thanks for confirming the wiring. I plan to get it installed by the end of this month . The service tech @ Best-Buy looked like a smart guy but hasn't done a TL before..so your instructions will be a good guide.

nice def do your HW on it back n forth especially since ur doing the installl......ive been installing alarms n remote starters for a while now so its not complicated its just tedious because all these new cars have wires shorter than anything and its almost impossible getting up in the dash to get the work done (also because I have sausage links for fingers)...the TL is a good car to work with and its not hard so you're in luck....good luck on ur install.

You can get any wiring info you need from the12volt.com:

the12volt is a great source...dont get me wrong, but they do have errors across the board for quite a few things so id double n triple check on wiring info thats posted from people.....but 99.9% of the info on there is great knowledge and a good place to get your feet wet when it comes to info on electronics and actually installing things on ur own. BUt theres still a lot of info left out i guess youd figure it out on ur own naturally after a few trial n errors....and if u dont i guess...dont mess with it its not for u lol

Can anyone explain how we can get Comfort Closure with these Viper 5901 remote units. Directed (DEI) says we CAN without having to purchase additional 529t &530t mods for window openings and closings. I just want openings. I've spoken to DEI and they told me to get Best Buy to call them, but Best Buy refuses to call them. Don't know why.... Also Best Buy couldn't figure out how to program drivers 1 & 2. Spoke to best buy's general manager about these issues and he said that it's NOT their policy to contact DEI regarding install issues, they use their own resources. "Some people would use foul words like, WTF at this point". They still didn't resolve the problems. They had my car for almost three days. I was not happy. I drop it off a day early so that they would call DEI to get help if needed with the comfort and drivers issues. They also told me that my transponder died and they had to replace it with one of theirs at an addition cost. Plus they broke off one of the rubber dampers underneath the steering column somewhere. No rattles noticed. I wasn't charged for what they couldn't, wouldn't or shouldn't do. This is a very nice remote system so far. Any suggestions? How far should I take this situation with Best Buy? Install completed, but not a completed install.

I'm just thinking here, but the Comfort Closure is designed to work with pre existing luxuries, such as our Window Down that we have, you program it to give to pulses and hold onto the second pulse just like you use your OEM FOB. But now, in order to get them to go up, we have to use an actual key and lock it from the door lock cylinder itself.

What is we used the KP Technologies Window Roll up, which only requires it to be installed in one door, rather than running those 529Ts to every door, and wiring every door. Then you just set the comfort closure to to pulse lock twice and hold on the second one, right?

I work at Best Buy and did car installs for 4 years. Whenever we had a problem with an install we would most certaintly call DEI for advice/help

I believe you're right from what I understand. That's one reason that I wanted the Comfort Close to work with the DEI unit, so that I could add the KP Tech to get the windows backup. Can anyone shed more light?

Found this in regards to Comfort CLosure on an 04 Tl on The12Volt.com

By the OP on the other forum
A couple days ago I did a rs/alarm/keyless in one of these babies and the customer wanted comfort closure to work. The RS unit was a Viper 5901 I believe. The unit was capable of doing it. I tested the acura and it did have comfort closure but you have to turn the key twice. Well I got the RS installed, tried to see if the windows would do their thing, no dice. Changed the programming to a double pulse lock thinking it may help, same deal. Anyone have any tricks to use on this situation?
Answer to OPs Question
For the TL you have to connect the lock wire of the 5901(green) to the actualy lock wire of the car and the factory arm wire in the drivers door by diode isolating them. The factory arm wire will test ground when you put the key in the cylinder and turn it to the lock position. After you do all that just turn the feature on in the 5901 and your done. BTW....the comfort closure wont work with the car on.
