Just called the Verizon store in Columbia, Maryland and they said they had the v710 firmware upgrade available and that they just received it yesterday. I will be going there after work, so I will let you all know if it works.

I got so sick of waiting for this that I ended up going with a Razr through Cingular, and I'm glad I did. It's a nice looking phone that works great. The waiting around for this update soured me on going with Verizon.

Does upgrade interfere with transflash?
Hi, I read on the Howard Forums board that if you get the upgrade you do get all that stuff showing up on the car, but that it disabled the transflash from allowing mp3 transfers and etc... to the phone. Have you tried to do this yet and if so could you let me know if you're able to transfer? Because it looks like it comes down to what you really want from the 710 - signal/roaming display or the ability to add ringtones, mp3s and movies to the phone which I really love to do.

Here is the rundown on the new changes:
-Camera key disabled while GIN is running
-Camera images improved for still photos after megapixel capture
-MAC OS-X created directories will be now supported with the transflash
-Hot-Swap will be supported for transflash
-Remove the ability to copy/move audio files from the transflash to the phone. Prevents users from copying audio files for use as ringtones
-Title bar has been removed from the browser to increase usable space.
-Allows the phone and bluetooth headset to ring during incoming calls.
-Sends signal, roam and battery indications to some bluetooth car kits.
-Allows phonebook entry transfer to some bluetooth car kits.
-Allows phonebook/data book synchronization to bluetooth capable computers.
-Additional automobiles have been added to the compatibility matrix to support bluetooth in some car kits.

just went to Howard forums reportedly the flash has been pulled because of bugs didn't last long did it? BTw if you have a trans flash card it disables the ability to upload ring
tones. This is more fun for me then having the signel and battery in the car ...

Well, for those who dont really care about the ring tones... the software update actually added a lot of functionality that i expected originally such as...
-battery and signal strength show on TL dash
-pressing the talk button on the steering wheel to flash over to a incoming call on call waiting now works
-the phone rings when paired with the TL and text message sounds occur now
-phone also rings when paired with a headset which was really annoying when it didnt

Hi Guys,
I live in Northern NJ, and I just called the Verizon (major) stores on Route 17 South, and the one on Route 4 West, and told me that they DID get the new software update yesterday, (tested it out), but they are not releasing it yet, because of some issues / bugs that they are still working out. Apparently its not 100% yet. They will re-release it in about a week or two. I waited two months, I guess I can wait some more.
Can someone else call the following stores (as a double check)?
I called the following:
Verizon (Paramus, NJ)
469 route 17 South
201- 225-4000
and...
Verizon (paramus)
341 route 4 west
201-343-8507

I was told if you take the upgrade you can no longer transfer stored mp3 files from the phone to the memory card. I really don't care, I didn't even know the phone could store mp3 files
By the way they messed up my upgrade. On the way home I realized I was still running the old version. What a waste of allmost an hour at a busy VZW store.

My early upgrade period is up in a couple of weeks and I can wait to get this phone. Please let me know which store in NJ you got your upgrade, because I'll go there to get my new phone.
Also, do they know about this firmware upgrade? or do I have to spend 30 minutes explaining?

Problem With The V710!!
I hope this is not a problem with the upgrade! Now when I try and answer an incoming call, the person can hear me say "hello", but the HFL turns off and the radio comes back on. Has anyone else experienced the same problem before or after the upgrade?

they all know about it, because the V710 was suppose to be one of the turning point in verizon sales but it kinda flopped, so they are trying to fix all the glitches and the firmware upgrade is one of the things that everyone has been complaining about so yes...they will know about it, but all places arn't giving them now...

Same problem here. If you answer it fast enough, you can sometimes get lucky. Otherwise, the HFL turns off.
I am going to try and have my phone flashed back to the old firmware. It was working fine before and I don't need a battery indicator.

Thanks for the reminder
I just went in today and flashed my firware. Yay.. the power and signal meters show on the dash now. I also nticed the photo's are better in low light conditions and picture mode handling is quicker. Delete of a pictue just taken would take 10sec or more, now it is instantaneous...
