V710 / PhoneTools problem

Has anyone figured out how to get a V710 to correctly connect (via USB) to PhoneTools if it didn't connect on the first try?

When I installed PhoneTools 2.21, I keep seeing "Mobile Phone not available" when trying to download Contacts from the phone.

I did an update on the software manufacturer's update, and now it seems to recognize the 710, but I still cannot get it working properly. Now, for the first time, the PhoneTools selection on the motorola website says that it is compatible with the V710, but I can't seem to get it to function at all.

Are you going to return it?

The USB cable, the V710, or the TL?

The V710 has the capability of using a transflash card. The transflash from SanDisk comes with an SD adapter according to radioshack's website. Has anyone tried transfering files from the phone to the PC and vice versa using this method? If phonetools doesn't work, it may be the only way to do so until phonetools is completely fixed. I've been contemplating this. The card is $70 and a reader is $20. Yeah, this is way more than the phonetools software, but you get an extra 128 MB in your phone for Mp3s and other stuff.

redhawk - my main concern for right now is trying to get my 300+ phone numbers from Outlook into my v710. The TF card won't help for that, unfortunately.

ok, sorry, yeah the card won't solve that problem, but some have complained about other file transfer limitations. It might solve that problem. Has anyone tried?

I have the card and am pretty happy. It is really only useful for storing MP3s, pics, and videos...don't think it is appropriate for any sort of file transfers.

BTW, order it from Amazon or Buy.com where they run less than $35 for the exact same product...you can get a universal card reader on those sites also.

To get it to work..

I downloaded the phonetools from this site..

http://www.bvrp.com/customers/motorola/upgrade/US/

This is an upgrade only so you will have to have the software on your computer in the first place.. Keep in mind you only need to enter your personal data and not change anything at the bottom.. Don't pick a phone or anything where it say software..

Let this install and update it.. To update it right click the phone in your system tray and pick live update.. do this about 3 times..

Now that's easy enough... you might run into a problem with the drivers and the computer not finding the phone.. On your C:\Program Files\mobile PhoneTools\Inf folder you have most drivers for all phones.. have it search that area to see if it find one it can use.. If you are having problems with this post your windows version and connection type.(usb, serial)..

To sum it up make sure your computer has the drivers for the phone(modem).. Download the software from the top link without changing anything other than your personal information.. Connect the cable and go.. I am sure you all will have questions and that's ok.. Please try to post as much detail as you can about what your are experiencing.. I really hope this helps.. I know alot of you have tons of contacts..

Where did you get yours from? I have been checking both sites and they say the transflash is on pre-order. The only place I found it in stock was on e-bay and I wasn't too confident in that listing.

Also, where did most of you get phonetools? Buy.com had is for $30 yesterday, but just raised their price to $40 sometime since then. Amazon lists it for $51. I just ordered two copies w/cables off of e-bay @ 17 + 9 shipping + 2 insurance each (half off second item shipping). Not too bad, but we'll see if they deliver.

The software alone is available for download here.

Cost is $30 for the software alone, or $60 with the USB cable.

Software and cable here.

Good luck!

I successfully followed Scuba629's suggestion.

I bought the PhoneTools software through the link I provided in my previous post, downloaded the LiveUpdate patch Scuba629 mentioned, and did one liveupdate.

I successfully imported my Outlook contacts to my new V710, which certainly beats hand entering 200+ contacts!

I had no trouble pairing the phone to the car, and made a few successful test calls. I'll populate the car's phonebook tomorrow.

Regards,
