V600 T-MOBILE VS v600 Cingular
V600 T-MOBILE VS v600 Cingular
Hey guys,
In two weeks i will have to get 4 new phones that are bluetooth compatible and work with the TL. I live in New Jersey and commute to Downtown NY everyday. I was looking at some pricing for the family plan and with for phones i found cingular to be cheaper, am i right. I have had t-mobile for 2 years now and really want to stick with them but i hear cingular is coming out with new towers or something so they might be a little better plus there a lil cheaper. So i decided on the v600 no matter what, but some where on this forum i read that there are goint o discontinue the V600 on cingular, Why?, will this happen with v600 on t-mobile also? Also what is RF i keep on reading it but never know wat it is. final question, the battery life on the v600 i read was horrible, is there an option that the bluetooth will turn on when its finds a bluetooh scource or do you guys just turn it off and on manually, i read that if the bluetooth is on it drains it realllllllllly quick. I have to decide quick because our plan is expiring. thanx alot guys

A few points:
1. IMO service wise both are decent. In my area Cingular and T-mobile share towers so both will get the same service.
2. T-mobile does not use the 850MHz frequency so their v600 has that band disabled, making it only a tri-band phone. If you buy the T-mobile v600 and decide that you want to switch carriers, your phone will not work well in areas where 850MHz has been implemented. Plus Cingular will give you the phone unlocked so you can switch to another carrier after your contract ends.
3. Now this is the killer. Yes, the v600 has been discontinued by Cingular. There apparently is an issue with the 850 MHz band, and Motorola is coming up with a fix. In the mean time Cingular will take your v600 and give you a v400 (does not have bluetooth), and then give you a new "fixed" v600 or a new model either the v551 or v620 sometime in September. I suggest you go to your local Cingular store to see if 1. they even have any v600s left (they are on clearance right now) 2. How the replacement will work, 3. If 850 MHz has been implemented in your area.
