Using 5.1 system with a sub...
Would it be possible to just unhook the factory sub, and use that for an input to a hi/low converter for an amp signal?
I'd like to be able to use the headunit to control the sub-woofer volume, and I was thinking this is probably the only way.
Anybody tried that yet, or even added a sub to an 07 with the DVD 5.1 system?

yea man..i just got my 07 tls and i was up at tweeters the other day talking to some guy about it. You can use the dvd system but you should get something called "cleansweep" by JL Audio. I'm not sure about disconnecting the factory sub, i'm sure you can though

There are several threads on the JL Cleansweep and Rockford Fosgate 3sixty (another posibility). Here is what I found with a quick search. There are many more.
Ok Boys N Girls I got JL AUDIO CLEANSWEEP
Rockford 3sixty signal processor
CleanSweep measurements in a TL (before and after)

Reading all that is so complicated to me!!
I was just curious if simply un-plugging the factory sub, and using that for a bass-amp signal wire would work???

I'm not sure if too many have done it, but I'm going to try it. That way NOTHING is cut, and if it doesn't work, no harm done!

The DVD-A Script Guy
Yes it will work but I have this general dislike of big subs all "pent up" in the trunk. They just seem to buzz the trunk and annoy the people outside the car. Especially used with multichannel DVD-A content. For stereo content I guess it isn't as big a deal since the FR/SR and FL/SL content is the same. A big sub WILL pressurize and over drive the SR and SL drivers by effectively turning them into passive radiators. Little subs will just "yap away" in the trunk and not really add anything worth while.
I like some of the ideas that use the rear seat pass-through as a baffle for the sub but I'm not so keen on having the pass-through open all the time. The best solutions, to me, have been the ones where folks have built enclosures around the OE sub cutout. The lets more acoustic energy go directly into the cabin and has less affect on the SL/SR drivers. But that's lots of time and effort.
All that said, I still think the ease of installation and the minimal cutting required makes it worth trying for sure. I say minimal cutting because you are going to have to run a new power lead to the trunk. That's going to be the "fun" part. You might not have to cut but you will have to pull plenty of trim and find a good path for the wire. Let us know how that goes.
