USA Spec Auxiliary Interface DF-HON

So even though I have an iPod, I think I rather have AUX-in in my car. I think its more versatile since I will be able to plug in any audio source.

So I was searching Crutchfield and came across this USA Spec DF-HON Auxiliary Interface - $70

Can someone verify it uses the same plug as the USA Spec PA11-HON? If so, I think the install should be the same and has the ability to keep XM with the Y-adaptor.

I've also tried searching the forum for discussion on this, but nothing came up. Has anyone installed this?

Thoughts?

From the specs, the advantage I see over the P.I.E. X3 is that the DF-HON doesn't require additional power. Just plug and play like the PA11-HON.

Circuit City has it for $60.

Is this similar to the Blitzsafe? Where you just unplug the lower right plug and use this adapter, and plug the XM into the interface cable.

Actually now that I look at it, looks like it plugs into the CD changer port? didnt know we even had that in the TL ?

So how would it work? Keep XM? and use 2 Aux sources.............I need an adapter can't decide on one, and $60 sounds real reasonable and I could probably get it localy.

from crutchfield

Note: The adapter is not compatible with vehicles that have factory navigation and DVD systems. The adapter takes the place of the CD changer, so you cannot have a CD changer and the adapter connected to your vehicle at the same time.

I think it means an external CD changer (the CDC connection). That is where most other modules (like the PA11-HON) plug in as well. I think I will call the manufacture and double check on things on my lunch break today.

I'm hoping it is similar to the PA11-HON, then it will just plug into the CDC port and if you want to keep XM, you just need to also get the Y-Adaptor. Can someone with a PA11-HON confirm the plugs are the same?

If you want versatile which is iPod Support PLUS AUX input you should definitely get the PA11-HON2. It has iPod input and as well as RCA input for aux device.

Hey waacow, can you confirm (from the picture) that the DF-HON uses the same plug as the PA11-HON2?

I like the 2 AUX input though. One for any audio (not just iPod, although I like the idea of steering wheel controls), another for DOM.

Just got off the phone with a Crutchfield Sales Advisor.

He said the plugs look a little different, but I don't know how reliable he is because he didn't know that a Y-Adaptor existed for the iPod interface.

Here is a picture of the iPod interface PA10-HON (not sure the difference with it and PA11-HON2):

Plugs look really similar to me.

Now I'm going to wait for an email reply from USA Spec.

Tempted to just go to Circuit City, get it, and test it out. Hey waacow, could you help me on the install?

Not sure the difference between PA11-HON2 and PA10-HON. I would assume PA11-HON2 > PA10-HON. Supposely PA11-HON2 is the newer version for the new generation of Honda and Acura. I don't know the plugs are the same, I guess I should have take a closer up pics of the plug before I installed it.

BTW, don't bother with USASpec Tech support, I e-mail them a while back, never got response. Try Tech support at DiscountCarStereo, they respond to my e-mail on a Sat morning.

datmrman: I don't mind help you on the install. Don't have a lot of time this week though and I'll be out of town for 2 weeks this Friday night. What is DOM?

Regarding 2 AUX input? Not sure how you toggle between 2 AUX input. Anyone try it with PA11-HON2?

Thanks for the hint on the tech support. I will try that.

DOM allows you to have video on the factory Nav screen for DVD/Rearview camera/Carputer/PS2/XBox/etc. Just do a search for Dom's TVandNav2Go.

From what I've read, you toggle between the two AUX input similar to how it is done on the PA11-HON2 (Disk 5 for AUX1 instead of iPod, Disk 6 for AUX 2).

Bad news.

Just called a local Cicuit City. I was informed that their computers stated the DF-HON came out years ago, and that the last model year it claims to be compatible with for Acura's is 2001 (Integra, Vigor, etc).

I guess its back to the drawing board until USA Spec (or someone else) can confirm its compatible with the 3rd gen TL.

yea, I dont think it will really work.

I am in the same situation, I dont have an audio solution for my dvd conversion unit, and I would like to use it for the Sony network walkman I have, instead of using the tape adapter, which is not bad, just has some noise from tape spinning when there is low vol music.

I myself work for Circuit City in the Car stereo department, I have already looked at doing this myself. The blue plug you see in the pictures is the end that would go into the radio. I also have removed the factory radio to see if the plug was back there, it IS NOT. I was so crushed, as I wanted to use it. There is an adapter out right now that will work that does not require any extra power. Here is a link for it. Aux in adapter Do some searching, as I did find it somewhere else for less.

Black_05_TL_6SP, you are the man!

Thanks for posting your experience. I was planning to head to Circuit City tonight to get it and try it out, but since you have already tried, I guess I will look into something else.

The Blitzsafe HON/AUX DMX V2 (from your link) works fine on the '04-'05 TL, but currently has known issues with the '06 as I've read in a few other threads on here.

Again, thanks for the post. You just saved me a lot of time and effort!

Most likely because they designed it for non-navigation cars and haven't tested it on enough cars with navigation to warrant it.

I have seen different features on different sites as well. Some claim it will work for '04-'06 Acura's; others still list '04-'05. So its also a matter of the website administrator updating the product details.

I'll just trust what other members on here say.

I don't have this specific model chris, but mine was an easy install and sounds awesome. If that helps you out any.
