Update on the Sony Ericsson P910a

Ok, so i was pretty darn upset when my SE P910a would not completely work on my TL. Well, a few days ago, I found a firmware update (R4D006 - phone, R4A10 - organizer, R4A11 - CDA) on the P910i. i figured the firmware would also work for the P910a. and so i went to the sonyericsson update site (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?...s1_1&pid=10185) and ran the update.

quick notes:

1. make sure that your java plug-in is up to date, otherwise, the upgrade process will not start and will just error out.

2. make sure that you are using the most current sync software.

3. and follow the sony ericsson instructions to the dot.

the whole process takes about an hour -- including backing up your P910a, upgrading the firmware, and restoring your backup. RUNNING THE BACKUP IS IMPORTANT!! the firmware upgrade will erase everything on the phone and restore it to factory spec. but dont worry, your SIM card information will be intact. after the firmware upgrade, restore the backup you just created.

the firmware update fixed a lot of my Bluetooth issues. its still not 100% compatible but it works somewhat. after the firmware upgrade, i tested out my phone and here's what i found: (this assumes that the P910a has already been succesfully paired)

1. dialing out via voice on the HFL still does not work. however, i found a process that DOES work:

a. dial using your phone's keypad or address book.
b. after hitting OK, select Keep In HandsFreeLink on the phone.
c. after your phone makes a connection, hit the MENU key on the phone and select "Transfer Sound", "HandsFreeLink". you may now speak freely on the HFL.

2. incoming calls are a breeze. you dont have to turn off and on your P910a for the HFL to connect. your first incoming call will automatically connect the P910a to the HFL (the phone icon will appear on the dash) and will remain connected.

3. if you still want the HFL to connect to the P910a when you first get in your car, you would still need to hit the Bluetooth icon on the P910a, hit Handsfree, select HandsFreeLink on the drop down, and hit Done. after a few seconds, you should get a notification on the P910a saying its connected.

sorry this post was so long, i hope this helps all you P910a owners!

Great information! Also, for updating your P910i or P910a, make sure you are using a DSS-20 or DSS-25 sync station, nothing else will work.
