Update: Major fail

Guess it is the system player causing the error after all...

It sucks, trust me. But consider yourself fortunate at some degree that it's a $160ish fix and not a $2,000 fix. And one that doesn't require a ton of work to remove/replace. I'll be sending mine out after the 1st of the year

Even if he removed the scratches, the actual nav. drive is what's scratching. It'll just keep doing it. I assume they'll replace the disc or make it work perfectly when you send it in.

Oh yeah....

There's something you don't read in every thread.

Ha I know, thanks.
Anyways..

I got the ISO for the 2012 white disk, and I burned it to my DVDR discs and, its fixed. Yeah, the disk may go out every 8 months or so but its better then going to Acura for 800 bucks or sending it to the navi company. (My system scratches the disk) Who puts a navi dvd player above a tire? Seriously..
If anyone has Disc problems..
MSG me if you have this issue, it takes 25 minutes to burn on the disc. (must change the book type to DVD ROM)

Did you rip the ISO or acquire it? I already have the 2012 disk, but if disk scratching is a potential problem, being able to rip it and re-burn if my original was damaged would be nice.

I acquired it myself, I'm in Computer Forensics, so that helped.

Few months ago i had a same problem but my disc wasnt as bad as yours. I went to a local electronic store and got myself a cd cleaning solution (the one with a little brush on disc) and ran it about 10-15 times and things started working fine for me - so far so good.
I know sending the unit to Alpine is cheap compared to a new unit or dealer replacement; however, i highly recommend $10-15 cleaning disc as the easiest and cheapest solution to try first.

hey, so i got the exact same message "DVD disc reading error, please consult your dealer" message, but ONLY when using the navi on freeways. on surface or side streets my navi works fine. i took it to the dealer and they did a "diagnostic" test (which they charged $150) and said i'd have to spend $3300 to replace the whole trunk unit.
i'm really curious if sending it in to alpine or using the cd cleaner works. please keep us up to date.

2006 TL

Had the same issue, but was under warranty, so sent unit back through dealer. Parts werw back-ordered, so it took 6 weeks to get back.

Seem to remember that the audio from my GPS was preceded by a "ding", and came through the system speakers. Got it back, and now it comes from the center of the dash, without the ding. Am I remembering correctly? They had it for so long, I could well be mistaken.

If I am correct, how do i fix it?

Navi comes from the center, BT comes from the fronts.

DAMN! That's quick. Faster return time I've heard of with this. Did they send you a new disc for your years TL..or the 2012 disc? I need to do this asap

I didn't buy mine at a dealership and haven't had any service done at a dealership...does this matter?? Also, what will I need if I went in there or can I just go in and say "hey...my nav drive's broken. Fix it!"

alpine sent me a new replacement disc for my 07 TLS. ver.4.92. which is what i had originally before it got scratched. it wasn't the new 2012 disc. sorry, i should have clarified that. also, from what i could find on other threads and postings, the tsb is only good for newer TL models...i believe 2009 and up (if my memory serves correctly). i have a 2007 and have more then 75K miles on it. so it wouldn't have applied to me anyways.
