Unlabelled DTS discs?

Has anyone ever gotten a DTS disc that is not labelled as such? A few weeks ago I picked up the latest two-disc version of Bob Marley's "Legend" thinking I was getting an SACD copy (stupid, I didn't check the box). It played as a normal CD on one of my SACD players at home. What's interesting, however, is that the TL says it's a DTS recording. Anyone ever seen this happen before?

(I know about the Rolling Stones SACDs that bear no SACD indicators anywhere on them; I was wondering if the same happens with DTS discs.)

I have the Santana - Abraxas on DTS 5.1 and it plays w/out any problems. It was properly labeled w/ the DTS logo.

Not quite sure what ur asking, but the format is labeled on the bottom-back of the cover/case.

DTS CD tracks are detected by looking for a particular bit pattern in the audio file. Is it possible that this disc causes a false detection, but is a standard CD? The real test is if you put it in a standard CD player that does not support DTS, and you hear the songs then it is not DTS encoded.

There is no listing of a DTS-encoded Bob Marley CD at www.dtsentertainment.com.

I thought something was weird about it too because it played fine in one of my ordinary CD players at home, so last night I ejected the disc and put it back in and this time it said it was a normal CD. Maybe somehow it just got confused.

Yes. There are/were quite a few DTS music CDs (discs) that sometimes get dumped in with the DVD-A discs. Check the DTS Online website for a list of discs that are still available. Many are old titles from the "quadraphonic" '70s....

That happened to me once--the system thought a non-DTS disc was a DTS disc. Next time I ejected and re-inserted, it got it right.
