The Ultimate Electronics Mod ever! - Chad
Let me start by saying that I have been researching all of the threads on the electronics, and can't seem to find too much. I just purchased a 2007 TL-S, so everything I am refering to is basically with regards to that.
I am looking for complete overhaul of all mods mentioned and some extras. I have much experience with computers, software, 12 volt electronics, and microelectronics.
I intend to do the following, however, keep in mind that I am looking to do these very nicely and basically all from scratch at the lowest cost possible, using circuit boards. Any input, knowledge, feedback, suggestions, and info for any itemnumber would be greatly appreciated. Please respond to which item you have input, because they are all so different, however, ideally we would like to accomplish all of these from one location/wiring.
1.) Actually remove the ok nag screen from disc 4.55 and up. - This has not been done yet for newer versions. I will attempt the software side of things, however, another solution would be to simply wire into the actual center joystick, (this works instead of using the touchscreen) and use a circuit board with a timer to make the connection after however many seconds after the car ignition is turned on, to press ok automatically, simple. Hardware costs should be less than $10. - I believe these exist and sell for $60 or more.
2.) Add DVD video and inputs using relays to interupt the screen, without paying hundreds of $$'s for a nav interface. - I will basically interupt the main RGB wires with a module. I intend to create this for less than $25. tricky part will be for users who do not have a backup camera and will want one. I already have one, so my plan is for the cars with the backup already installed. Once made, we can work on other owners. This will as of now just require some good circuitry planning, and exact schematics of the navi wiring harness. If anyone has these, please post. I have found some links and people claiming the correct wires, but hard evidence would be nice to move forward with. I intend for the sound to be played through the auxilary. This hack will be in the trunk as of now, simply for space.
3.) REMOTE START via phone, ALARM alert via phone, phone command, track your vehicle if stolen, live feed, and much more. - this will be fun. I have done my research, and there is a project called open gps tracker http://www.opengpstracker.org/ It basically is a $20 phone with about $80 in parts. It uses a prepaid plan which is $5 per month, if you use it for about 200 text messages. It can be programmed to accept commands from text messages, and trigger relays, etc Now what we will use it for is:
a.) if your vehicle ever gets stolen, you can text the prepaid phone (in your vehicle), and it will tell you the location. Of course this will be hidden very well. you can find the location of your vehicle at anytime.
b.) we will try to find the cheapest yet reliable remote starter unit, and program this phone/relay to accept additional codes. We will be able to remote start our vehicle from a text message, anywhere! adding more codes and more relays, we could have templates in our phones that say start, turn on heated seats, heated mirrors, defroster, a/c, etc. you get the idea.
c.)This also opens the ideas to receive text messages if an optional alarm is hooked up, or simply a vibration sensor that is silent and not hooked to an alarm, that texts our phone if someone is breaking in our vehicle, it is being towed, side swiped, anything. estimate $30 for sensor
d.) There are tons of extras we could use this for, roll up windows, trigger automatic startups for 10 minutes, 15 min.. if battery is low, or if temperature reaches xx amount of degrees, etc. ALL by phone, not bluetooth, via text message anywhere in the world any other cool ideas here would be appreciated.
4.) basically everything in #3 would be fun. I had some more ideas, but it is late, I will write everything down, and start laying out my project. If anyone has any input, low cost parts that they have found useful, remote starter, etc, it would give me a great start.
I intend to make everything as combined as I can so when finished I can make the exact write up so everyone here can just use the same simple parts, starters, and there wont be any confusion.

hey Chad. I like your ideas. Not sure if you can use any of these modules but you can take a look:

Keep us posted on your progress.

Chad, just be careful with the navi video and the relays. The stock screen operates at 15 hz and not at 60 like regular monitors do. Sending the wrong signal can damage it! The converters send the signal at 15 hz, at least my dom's does.
(LoveMyTL-S) thanks for the kptechnologies link, I think a few of those will be useful.
(csmeance) good info on the relay frequency.
I havent started anything yet, getting my windows tinted this week, and doing some basics to the car first (just bought it) before I begin this entire electronics mod. Just though that I would gather some info first. Good input so far.

Well if the phone doesnt have a signal, it obviously wont work. but it is via at&t, so I am assuming that they have a signal. The other downfall would be if the gps cant get a signal, this is for parking garages and such, however it is smart enought to send the location once it leaves
that's the downfall of lojack... buddy of mine had car stolen, cops figured out that the car was parked underground parking lot for about a week so lojack wasnt able to locate, then was dismantled for parts...
I too wish I had something to offer. Best I can give ya is if you make this, I'll be your first customer.
