Turn off Navi?

Once I press the nag button, is there a way to turn Navi off without restarting the vehicle? Secondly, how many "Suck it up and pull over" responses will I get?

Reason is, I prefer minimal light from the dash while driving at night.

Go into the settings, there will be an option that says display off. There are no voice commands for this.

or if you start your car and dont press the nag button the display turns off in like 30 secs.

IIRC, there is a voice command-- "settings...display off" -- as an alternative to pushing the Settings button and touching the "display off" icon.

Correct. Doing it this way is, IMO, preferable to not hitting the "OK" at the nag screen and letting it go blank that way. Reason is that you can still use the voice commands when the display is turned off (should you wish to do so). I've always found that it's easier to tune the XM radio with the voice commands. While I almost always leave the Navi display turned on, when I've driven beyond the edge of its coverage I found that it was distracting because the screen would freeze either on the nag screen with "OK" highlighted or on the audio screen displaying the last thing I had played (which is a sure-fire way to get a song stuck in your head if the last thing you played was on XM). In that circumstance, being able to turn off the display is very useful. But you can't get the voice command access until you hit "OK" at the nag screen.

Talking Using voice commands without Navi activated

Actually, you can use voice commands without the Navi activated.
Just pull the Navi voice command switch twice-- it will generate a "beep" after the first pull on the switch to indicate activation of voice commands; you give the voice command after the second pull on the switch.

I normally do not activate my Navi, but occasionally use voice commands then.

Correction: the voice commands are actually "setup" (the name of the Navi dash button), then "display off" after the Navi goes to the setup screen.

Interesting. I'll have to try that this afternoon. Man, even after six years you still periodically learn new things here.
