Tmobile/Google G1 pairing with HFL
I got my G1 today and have been playing with it pretty much all night. I love the phone, however the one thing i am worrying about is the connection with HFL. I have had 4 phones since i bought my car and only one (Blackberry Curve) has worked flawlessly. I won't have time to test the phone with my car until next Monday....
Anyone attempted to pair theirs to the TL's HFL yet? Does it respond well to the system/wheel controls?

Not to hijack but, what does "flawlessly" mean?
Because im not sure my phone is working properly.
If i dial from my phone (Nokia), is the cars bluetooth automatically supposed to pick it up and put it over the audio system? Because mine doesnt but my dads lexus does with his LG.

The HFL system is very, very iffy about what phones it will support. If your steering wheel controls work, the unit displays incoming calls #, and call waiting switchover works, consider yourself lucky. I've had nothing but problems with 3 of my 4 phones.

I don't think that the car is supposed to pick up call that have been dialed from the phone.
I have the Nokia N95 and the TL's bluetooth is not being seen as a headset but rather a "car kit", so I don't think that it is supposed to work the same as a headset.
On a side note, I am pretty pleased with how the N95 works with the TL. The only thing that I can't do is transfer my phone book. I even got the Acuralink data to go through my phone.

Why wouldn't it? My buddy's IS250 does it fine. I like that better since I can find the number and place the call quickly (yes, while driving, I know, I know, dangerous, blah, blah, blah) instead of dialing the number, hanging up, hitting the HFL button and saying "Redial". The transfer command almost never works for me.

On my curve 8830 it does the same thing. I have to press menu, scroll all the way down to handsfreelink, and press enter. It's very dangerous to do while driving.
On my mom's bmw (same phone) it sends the call through the speakers automatically. i'd rather have it that way.

I got my car back tonight and immediately tried pairing the phone.
GOOD NEWS for G1 users. It works great. Signal, Battery, Caller ID all appear on display. Call send and hangup buttons each work well. (the phonebook sync option that appears to work on very few phones is the only thing that doesn't work)

Now it works even better than my Crackberry did. The phone is ALWAYS linked to the car...never have to manually sync it.

It took me a few tries. I think the last time, i said "search" to the TL before i put the phone into "discovery mode". As soon as i hit "discovery mode" the car picked up the phone.

My 04 doesn't have any problems pairing to my Blackberry Curve. Can make all calls thru the HFL and steering wheel controls. And not have to worry about being on the phone while driving.

Try turning off the bluetooth on the G1 and turning it back on. I have the same issue with my TL and G1 once in awhile. It works for me every single time.

I was able to get my G1 paired with my 2006 TL NAVI. The basic problem is that this is just one of those times where doing what seems logical doesn't produce the desired outcome. So... here's what I did to get it to work:
These directions assume you are starting with the Bluetooth on the G1 completely OFF. This is very important. If Bluetooth is on when you start, this process will probably fail.
Notes:
#1 [PHONE] = press the HFL phone button on your steering wheel.
#2 Anything in quotation marks is something you have to “say” out loud to the TL's HFL.
1.[PHONE] “Phone setup”
2.[PHONE] “Pair”
3.[PHONE] “1 2 3 4” [This is the bluetooth password. Use any 4-digit sequence you want.]
4.[PHONE] “Yes”
5.The TL's HFL will attempt to discover the G1. Turn on Bluetooth on the G1.
6.Enable discovery on G1.
7.An entry for the HFL will appear on the bottom of the G1's Bluetooth menu screen. Touch it.
8.A menu will appear with two choices: “Connect” and “Pair”. Touch “Pair”
9.Pop open the G1's keyboard and enter the password you chose in step 3.
10.The TL's HFL will ask you to name the Bluetooth device (the now paired G1). [PHONE] “My G1 Android” [or whatever you want to call it].
11.You're done.
I figured this out when I watched what happened on my G1 when I first enabled Bluetooth. As soon as I turned it on, it did a little discovery routine. I (wrongly) assumed that touching the Discover choice on the G1 would be the logical thing to do when pairing the device with the TL's HFL. Never worked.
So now my G1 pairs up perfectly with the TL. It automatically links when I start the car. It answers calls, and works through the TL's speakers without any “transfer” commands, etc. It works just as well as my old Blackberry Curve did.
I doubt it matters, but in the interest of full disclosure, I'll add the following info. My G1 is still on firmware version 1.0. I've only had the phone for 2 days and Google hasn't pushed the 1.1 firmware upgrade to my G1 yet.

I know, it's weird. My Samsung t819 works perfect with my 04. I dial a number on the phone and as soon as the caller picks up, the music turns off and it automatically transfers to the speakers. My Moto razor didn't do that
