For those who want to maxmize ELS sound capability, look at this.

Hello there.
Many of you know that the TL supports ELS 5.1 surround sound system
with 7 speakers and 1 8" wannabe subwoofer.

I do not know why ACURA did not spend more money on that 8" subwoofer just
a little more to make it better or bigger.

Anyway, back to the point, I know that many of TL owners want to
modify their sound system due to the wannabe speakers, amp, and subwoofer.

However, due to the money problem there are not many people who
really work on their sound modification. All I know is that people just
satisfy with the EQ control system on the stereo.

For me, this requires a little more work, but I listen to the CD I burned in the car
and watch which song needs to be equalized.
For ex. If a song A does not seem to work with TL subwoofer and not sharp enough, I memo the name of the song and the things it lacks in.
I know the +6 bass, +6 tremble, and etc are not enough.

Here is the solution. Many of you may know this, but sine I have not seen
a thread like this, I am posting it.

Soultion.
Listen to the songs in TL, and write which song needs to be equalized.

Through using a sound software such as Sony Sound Forge, Cool Edit Studio, Pro Tools, and so on, use EQ effect to boost the low & high frequencies.

When I did this in the first time and had a test on my TL first time, I got surprised.

I used the subwoofer practically to its limit.

For now, because I can not afford the sound systems due to money problem, I think I should stick with this method... The medias like DVDs and CDs are cheap.

I think it's a good habit to push the TL sound system to its limit.

If there is anything else you want to add to maxmize TL sound, please leave your comments.

Have a great day~

i do this every now and then and can usually tell when a song won't be up there in frequencies with the rest of them before i burn the disc...

i just load my song into Peak and look at the waveforms...it's usually obvious if it needs tweaking or not...

itunes also has some built-in features for equalization like the equalizer and crossfade...there's also a sound check feature that will make songs in your playlist around the same volume level, though this doesn't do a thing for the frequencies...that's what the graphic equalizer is for and it includes multiple presets for those unsure about manually changing their own settings...i don't really use these features, but they're good have in case you need them...

good topic to start...i think it will come in pretty useful...

Yeah, the TL's system isn't going to push very high SPL and the 8" sub certainly doesn't pound nails through concrete but I wouldn't call it "wannabe". I'm pretty sure that one user did some spectral analysis on the system and found that it was reasonably flat (while parked) and had reasonably good low frequency extension. The HU does have quite a bit of built in EQ and the belief is that it is intention to try and flatten out the system. The truth is that cabin gain typically alleviates the need for huge low frequency drivers. But, at speed, sometimes you need "more than flat" response to be able to get the low frequency response you want.

Personally I think you are barking up the wrong tree to try and map out EQ for individual songs. One typically wants to get a point of reference with a system and then EQ the system using a set of standardized tones. After that you just play content through the system w/o any additional EQ. Also, since there are so many variables involved like speed, road surface, number of people in the car, etc. I don't think you will ever get to a set of numbers that work consistently.

You might cut to the chase and just add more sub to the car if that's what you need/want.

Interesting method, but a little too much work for me.

Instead, I just normalize all songs before I burn (yikes, I haven't burn a CD in a long time) or copy them to my mediagate.

CDs are cheap, but you should also consider CDRWs. They work fine as well.
