Is there a relay to do this?

I want a relay that switches something on when something else turns off.. Is there a type of relay that does this?

Depending on the on/off nature of the devices, a simple SPDT relay could do it. The device that shuts off would have to de-energize the coil (terminal 85 or 86) by cutting either + or - voltage to the coil. Your device that needs to be turned on would be connected to terminal 87A. A power source (either + or -, depending on what you wanted to use) would be connected to terminal 30. When the coil is de-energized, the relay opens, connecting terminal 30 and 87A to close the circuit, turning your other device on.

Nope, not at all. If there is a wire or lead attached to 87, remove it or wrap the end well because it will be "hot" whenever the relay coil is energized.

Some other good links (sorry, should have given you these earlier):

General relay info

Relay forum

Relay special applications
