I'd recommend you either put them under the front seats (if they can fit) or delete them altogether. They are not going to help your sound while in the trunk. Not unless you have tailgate parties.

Yes, it screws into the existing stock panel. The holes line up perfectly. All you will need is a wiring harness if you don't want to cut speaker wires.

I was thinking of installing an amplifier board in my 08 TL similar to this guy. I have two questions:

1. What kind of screws should I use to fasten the board securely to those metal support beams?

2. What kind of wood should I use?

3. Does anybody have a good template to use for the wood cutout?

I am selling my center channel Polk Audio DB351 speaker if anyone is interested. It fits perfectly into the center grill of the third gen TL's. All you need is a screwdriver. PM me if you are interested.

Well I'm sure you have seen mine but here is a pic anyways, looks likes "stew" except for a few things....
But again great job!!

I completely disagree with the idea of swapping the stock headunit. I've recently started competing in Iasca events (2) with my stock unit and have won 2-1st place trophies and 1 - 3rd place overall against pros and manufacturers.

All I did was add Balanced Line Transmitter from the Stock Headunit to the aftermarket amps. It sounds great!! I've yet to see an aftermarket HU in a TL that looks decent and it won't outperform the stock with the right set-up...You'll get more by adding a Zapco DSP-6, Fosgate 3.2, or Audiosound Bit 1 ( I think that is what it is called)

Anyway, kudo's for doing all of that yourself. For a first time, it is a great start I'll be at the Huntington Beach Competition on Aug. 8th and yoou can hear for yourself

Chico,

Did Bing install a BLT for you or was it a SLB-U (a balanced line driver / pre-amp)?

Thanks,

Thanks,
You had to call me on that...it is the slb-u. He took out the stock amp all together. no center channel or rear fill...I was thinking about a Bacon Lettuce and Tomato sandwich when I wrote the original post

Wasn't trying to call you on that but I've been trying to decide on the proper interface between the TL's HU and Zapco amps. I read on here somewhere that the TL HU outputs about a 1 volt signal. The Zapco amps have a .5 V minimum sensitivity. So I've been trying to decide if a pre-amp is necessary. I've decided to go with the SLB-U pre-amps. It's just a pain to try and fit them into the stock amp location (all three of them).

Anyway thanks for the feedback; your system is one of the Bing systems that I'm drawing inspiration from.

I am currently running a DQL-8 off the post factory amp wires, the sound is good, but there is some hiss at low volume levels. Nothing too bad, but its there. Do you think I would have better results if I ran the DQL-8 off the pre-factory amp wires? Would I still get my navi-voice, etc?

If you haven't done so already, give the guys a zapco a call. The've dealt with plenty of TL's and provide great customer service...

Unfortunately, I can't answer for your specific application, never used a DQL-8. What I can say is the stock amp was completely removed and the HFL works fine. I did loss the nav voice, which I found annoying, but I pulled all the center channel speakers as well....Hiss at any level would be a problem for me...

Hello Tech14,

Did you have a navigation system in your cars? How do you connect it to your amplifiers?

Why would you want to amplify your navigation system?
