Tape player died - fix or aux mod for iPhone?

Hi folks. I'm new to the boards and need some audio help. I have an '06 TL and today the tape player quit. I only use it to work the tape player adapter to play music through my iPhone. Was searching this board for fixes and see a lot of write ups to just go aux in mod. Here is my question. Has anyone been able to do a simple inexpensive fix for the player? If not, any recommendations and how to write-ups with pics and panel removal instructions? It's been awhile since I have tinkered with car audio - let's just say the last time I did tapes were popular :-) Thanks everyone!

Install a GROM, DICE, iSimple device to get AUX/iPhone compatibility and call it a day. no one uses their tape player much anymore and it'll be cheaper to do the former than to fix it.

This is definitely an option, but I went a little cheaper and just bought an FM Transmitter on Amazon. Just find two good frequencies to toggle between through depending on your area and you are good to go.

Either way is good.

I was really wondering for a second who in the hell would be using their tape player enough for it to stop working. I'm relieved.

As thoiboi said however, the tape is archaic and you'll have difficulty finding people who had one break on them... and for them to repair it. You can hack a 3.5mm jack in the radio directly if you'd like and have the necessary skills.
Here's a guide:

Thanks guys - definitely something to think about.

Thoiboi - do you have a preference of the options you listed? Took a look and it seems I have to have the lightening adapter to use the optional upgrade cable to have integration. Are there none that are out of the box compatible with lightening? Also, is there a sticky or other post to show how to remove the panels for installation? Thanks again!!

no direct lightning because most of those options were made with the 30pin adapter in mind. 30 pin to lightning cable isn't too much of a hassle though. Yup look up in the garage or just search on google with the query "site:acurazine.com" and you should find multiple DIY, instructions etc.

i haven't used any of the above but iSimple is a popular one. shop around if you want to buy new or look out on the Black Market to see others selling used ones.
