Trew...
I'll get around to it..I SWEAR I WILL...hahaha...just so much goin on right now...kinda low priority...hey it plays sounds great looks like donkey ass in the trunk...but...w/e...I'll be doing the trunk first...maybe the first week in Jan...that's about 2 weeks of work between fabricating and welding me an amp rack...finish rear enclosure and all trim panels...what do you know about marble inside your subwoofer enclosure...with an oval window peekin in on the rear of the subs in action...classy =)...who knows...I may start today...highly un-likely...but ya never know...
Eggy...
single 18 in a TL...
man...do three JL 13tw5 molded enclosure on the rear deck of your TL...that would be fuckin SICK!!!!
CS...
It's an Acura...not a GM,FORD,Chrysler product...lol
I'm gonna try and record an SQ Track with the cam sometime today...we'll see how well that works...check by later!!!

On another note, I may be helping this guy set up a 2 day SQ tuning seminar in the Bay Area. We are looking at dates in May. Once things firm up I'll post more info.

Mr. Jason.... I'm going to LA this coming weekend. If you've got the time to demo I can make it. If not I'm sure I'll be back that way within a month.

Biggs what do you think about this?
Some of you have seen pics or drawing of the new Mag's basket and read about its shallow 5.5" of mounting depth. You might have also heard about the super-small enclosure requirements.
As much as I love my current Mag 12's, and love beating the absolute piss out of them, I have also given a lot of though as to the design in general. The current Mag (the one's we are sold out of) are a decently efficient, are extremely versitile, and have the ability to soak up a LOT of power. That last sentence has a key word in it - soak. I can count on one hand how many times I have bottomed out my pair of Mag's with a 3200 watt amplifier, two big batteries, and an HO alt. And even then, I did it on purpose.
Now, I want everyone that has downloaded a copy of WinISD (can be downloaded for free at www.linearteam.org) to do the following: Load any 12" subwoofer and put it in 1 cubic foot sealed. Put the input signal at 1000 watts. Pull down the toolbar and take a look at excursion. You won't see the excursion plot go over 38/40mm of total travel. ...yes I used WinISD, but I used it because it is free and it works very well to show cone excursion per given application.
What people are failing to realize with most super-subs is that they are paying for something that will never use. Sure you might have 27-30mm of one-way travel, but how much of you are actually using that travel? Also, how much power does it take to get to 54-60mm of total trave in 1 cubic foot sealed? Do the homework in WinISD and you'll be very surprised.
In practical applications, you aren't getting your 12" subwoofer to move over 20mm one-way with 1000 watts in 1 cubic foot. So why pay for all that extra weight and inefficiency if you don't have to? Not to mention the fact that a "super-sub" is almost always 6.75" or more deep.
I have attached a screen shot of the excursion plots for the JL 12W7 and the current SI Mag 12 (the one's we are sold out of) in 1 ft^3 sealed with 1000 watts of input. The JL is the yellow plot, the Mag is the orange plot. Notice how much cone excursion is going on above 20 Hz.

The verticle plane is total excursion in milimeters and the horizontal plane is frequency.

I got a chance to demo Jason's system and impressed is an understatement. It's especially neat since we are running the same subs.
The sound quality is top notch. We played everything from rap, rock, and I even brought a country CD. In other words it doesn't matter what kind of music you listen to, you will be impressed. Bass will go super low and at the same time, it's super tight on country music.
What blew my mind was the SPL these things generated at low excursions. His sunvisors did a dance, the windshield flexed, the outside sideview mirrors were blurry, lets not even talk about the rearview, I could feel it in my chest and my arm hair, all the while retaining perfect SQ and distortion free. It hit every note at every volume and I kept turning around to see just how little excursion there was at the subs. Everytime I turned around to look at the subs I was surprised how little they were moving for the volume level.
Outside of the car with the volume up and windows up, no rattles and from what I hear this is with no sound deadening.
I'm not sure what mids and highs were in there but they were impressive too.
A big thanks to Jason for taking the hour and a half to BS with me and show the system off.
