alright so we tried to do the front components and 2nd amp yesterday but ran into the same issues. drilling into the door frame to house the baffles. kept breaking bits and screws.
i'm just going to end up taking the speakers and amp to a shop and have them installed.
any idea what i'll get charged for that? and should i install the 2nd amp ahead of time to minimize the install costs? any advice?

What are you using? ...it shouldn't be that hard with the correct bit. Also, pre-drill small holes before screwing if you have to.

Prices are different everywhere, but I'd guess around $100 to cut and install in the doors. I would install the 2nd amp if you can, why not. It'd literally take 2 seconds to tap into your distro blocks for power/ground and run the speaker wire to the door and have it ready for them to wire up to the speaker when they put it in.

The TL's door steel is not very difficult to cut; I was able to use tin snips to cut it and just standard HSS bits. If you are breaking bits could you be pressing too hard? You have to let the bit cut the metal; you could use some oil to lightly lube the cutting area but you really don't need to.

Yes tin snips to cut the metal to enlarge the opening in the door for larger speakers and high speed steel drill bits to cut holes for the baffle attachment. In retrospect I found that the jigsaw attachment for my dremmel tool cut through the door like butter and made a smoother cut. In any case the story is still the same, if you are breaking drill bits you are doing something wrong.
