Subwoofer in TL
Subwoofer in TL
Hey peoples, I just picked up my 2005 NBP with Ebony Interior Navigation 5AT a few days ago. (FINALLY after all that anger after dealers) And when i turn my music up just a little bit, the rear subwoofer sounds like a blown speaker. I also turn down the bass too, is it the car? Or i think it might be that the subwoofer is just weak. In the end, i just end up turning my bass down so much there is no more thump really. Anyone else have this problem?

I have the exact same problem. I have to turn it waaay down, and I hate that. If I have it even close to mid level, then it sounds horrible. I took it to the dealer and they said it was nothing and normal, which I don't believe at all.
Here's what you do.......
You take that $35K car to the dealer and have them fix the rattle, and any other item that you are not happy with! If you art not happy with the tires, you bug the Hell out of them until they fix it. Got a rattle in your back deck, you bug them some more. Something in the driver's side c-pillar rattling? Bug them until they fix it! Do you see what it is that I'm trying to tell you? You are not required to live with these niggling items and they are not "Normal."
O.K. Rant is over... My rear deck rattle was actually the product of TWO issues. The dealer found a clip in the rear-passenger seatbelt mechanism that was loose. The other was caused by the rear deck vibrating against the rear glass/body frame, only on certain songs. If you stick your hand back there (where the rear window comes down to meet the back deck), you'll notice a little gap. You'll also notice that the rear deck has a little play in it. For me, it was a source of vibration. They put some weatherstrip/insulation in there and squashed almost all of it. Now, I only have about 4-5 songs in my collection that will make me turn the Sub down (1 or zero).

I know this gets covered a lot here, but a lot of the old threads have aged out I think, cuz I can't find them... I would love to know if I can swap about the amp and sub.. I think I read here that the stock amp can not power a larger sub. So, would I need a NEW replacement amp, or an another amp?
THANKS for letting me know.
THANKS for letting me know.
you would probably WANT to get an aftermarket amp if you really want to power the sub. Basically the stock amp just won't do the job if you really want some added bass.
The stock stuff just isn't enough for me so I am adding aftermarket speakers and amps.

Ryan,
Cool thanks for the info. I would be interested in hearing the results of your upgrade after you are done!

hearing the results might be difficult but I could tell you.
I will be getting all of my upgrades done this week and done by saturday with some pics hopefully by then.
I am adding a ton of stuff though I will let you know.
I am adding a 3 way component set now upfront with custom kickpanels in the floor. 6.5 " in the door, custom baffle for that, with the kick panel on the floor doing a 4" midrange and tweeter. I might do the tweeter in the dash in the factory location just to fill in the hole, but not sure yet.
7 x 10" in the rear deck, now I know some of you say only a 6 x 9 will fit but DLS, my speaker company (high end)
makes a 7 x 10 that fits 6 x 9 location.
2 12" subs in a custom box with a port through the read fold down armrest.
I will fill you all in with pics and updates to the sound once it's done on sat.

hey, how did u go about wiring the new sub? are there RCA outputs in the stock HU or did u have to use some sort of line-out converter. I also have a 2nd Gen TL, and i added an aftermarket sub and amp by using a line out converter from the stock sub wiring. is it the same on the 3rd Gen? thanks a lot bro!

Dark Dj,
First the pic will be up on sat or sunday.. Alot of them too..
Second, for the 3rd gen, I don't know about the others you can use the low level line that goes to the stock sub to run an aftermarket amp and sub.. that is what the install guys are doing with mine.
Hope that helped
