subwoofer question

i have seen setups where u guys port the sub box into the cabin, my question...

is will it still sound good if i dont port it into the cabin?

is there anyone on here that has a setup thats not ported into the cabin?

could i controll the subs with the stock stereo (07 tls) or would i need to get a bass knob thing?

It's still going to sound "good", but not "as good".

Yes. Many. Including me.

What prince said. I have a very similar set up as prince. Small sealed enclosure in the drivers side trunk area. I wanted to keep my passthrough and it also saves space. Best compromise in my opinion.

I would suggest you try different positions until you find one that you like.

I have mine pointed straight back to the trunk. But I have time alignment which enables me to adjust the audio signals from all the drivers so they hit the listener at the same time. The listener cannot tell the sub is in the back. It bass seems to be coming from the hood of the car

Most people do not have this setup. But having a true bandpass ported to the cabin (not a sealed box facing forward or a ported box facing forward) solves a few of the issues the TL has. No rattles even at crazy volume levels. No real cancellation issues. Tons of gain from the box itself. You do not need anywhere near the power for the same volume level. SQ, I absolutely love the sound. The box can be tuned anyway you want it but this one is more musical but also hits deep. I can hear more detail in the bass than any other setup I've heard. I had some tuning issues along the way but it's coming together nicely. I wish CSWBiggs still posted on here because he could back it up with a good technical discussion and this was originally his project.

I guess the question is are you looking for just a ported box or a bandpass box?

I did have this box turn around one time right before I had it bolted down and with it facing nearly rearward it lost some of it's detail but the lows were amazing.
