Face it outward, it gives more space for the bass to mature and give you the right sounding notes.

If you want it accurate and really good sounding then u want it facing forward trough the armrest opening. But u gotta make sure when u put in the box that way that u seal around it so that all the bass goes into the cabin and not back to the trunk wich would cause a lot of cancelations and u would lose sound. But then again the easiest way is to turn it towards the back..... I played with my setup for about couple of months and found out that facing forward gives me the best image and the best sound quality and also it gets louder belive it or not

agreed with bukvaman, however, hearing and feeling the bass are two totally different things. most people like to feel it (low rumbling...) also, hearing it may now sound as pleasant, all it does is makes your ears rattle. in reality, bass is most heard and felt when it has more surfaces to bounce off of (air waves). because you can barely hear sounds from 20 hertz to 35 hertz and is best felt from the low vibrations as long as your car is not rattling.

The reason why bukvaman's setup will work well, is because using the armrest opening makes the system similar to a bandpass setup (thats the reason it has to be well sealed around it), 2 chambers, one sealed, one ported(armrest opening).

otherwise, facing the rear, right against the back of the seats work great.
