WTF NO BURNED CD's
so a few weeks ago i had an issue with my cd player a i'd changed the cd and it kicked it out with "disk format" on the screen. So i tried another cd and the same message appeared. Finally i put a disc cleaner in and it worked great so i didnt have an issue cause those things happen. Now it happened to me again 5 days ago and everyday i try to clean it with the disc cleaner and it says "disc format" everytime i even use the disc cleaner. So i took it to the dealership and they said, "since 1996 customers have been told never to use burned cd's, they are thicker than store bought cd's and they will jam the cartridges." wtf my dad's 1995 toyota avalon plays burned discs but my 2007 acura tl type s, fucking $40 grand won't play them. Thats bullshit. Basically really pissed right now they said they'll replace teh cd drive for free but once done no burned cd can ever be put in it or will jam again and they will not fix it. Anyone have any ideas i'm wondering if i can just change the cd changer in teh dash so it has another aftermarket one behind the face plate so it'll read cd's better. Idk someone help me
Since 1901 that has not been the case.
If you have labels on the disc, it may cause a problem, it sounds more like whatever software you are using to burn it is crap, or the way it's finalizing it is crap - are you using Roxio DirectCD? It probably won't work, same if you're using Vista and don't choose the "master/finalized" copy.
Also note you have an 07.. so just make MP3 data CDs!!
Three of the discs in my radio are burned..

i know man all my cd's are mp3s and no labels i've known that those can cause problems
and i use the window's software to burn mp3s just drag onto cd, create data disc and it burns. but now no cd's will work in it. not even normal store bought its fucking retarded. i've had so many issues with the car since day one. none really teh manufacturers or the dealerships but still just issues. thanks for the advice, idk what to do yet but i've been cd-less and it blows

the cd isnt being finalized..the session needs to be ended. you cant leave the cd open so that you can add more files later. the cds u burned..if u put them back into your comp and add more files and then burn..it will create a new session and burn those files. on one that works in your car..it shouldnt be able to do that, all session should be closed. it would make ur life a lot easier if you use Nero or Roxio or any other CD burning software, because then u can just check a box that says finalize. im sure u can do it the windows explorer way too, but im not too familiar with it..ill look into it and see if i can figure it out.
*EDIT* i apologize..i used closed session and finalized interchangeably. this is not how it works. the disc needs to be FINALIZED for it to work in an mp3 player.

1. Not sure if you have XP or Vista, however in Vista the CD must be "Mastered"
2. In any case if you dont have Nero, Roxio, Toast, or any other program on your computer you can just used windows media player on a PC (not a mac) to burn your cd. The following link will give you instructions on how to burn the cd in windows media player.

Click on Burn a data CD or data DVD
Good Luck!
ALSO check out the Audio, Bluetooth, Electronics, & Navigation thread for useful info

My '07 TL-S plays burned CD's full of MP3's flawlessly. Tags intact, sounds good, no format issues. This has been the case since day 1.
Burn the MP3's as files (i.e. make a data CD of MP3's). Make sure the session is "closed" or "finalized" - whichever is the correct term. When finished you cannot write to this CD again.

The other day my CD player wasn't reading any CDs but it somehow fixed itself, my guess was because it was really cold the CD player just went screwy. Who knows its all good now, and I saved a trip to the dealer.
i'm gonna try burn a cd like that
but what i'm thinking is that its not even that
because it wont even read the disc cleaner anymore
i just wish there was a simple solution
like an easy button
i think i'm just gonna go buy one
so i can be satisfied by pressing it
thanks guys

Ask them if you can't make your own MP3 CDs in your '07, then where can you buy them? The TL is designed to play burned CDs. If the HU gets damaged, they will have to fix it. Wow, the crap some dealerships come up with...Personally, I would find another dealership.

GENIUS! I was JUST about to post the same thing - the radio says MP3, so how the hell are you supposed to get an MP3 CD if you cannot burn it??
That dealership is full of bs....the only difference between commercial CDs and burnt CDs, is that commercial CDs are stamped, not burnt.
Wow, being in IT field, I would of went on them for stupidity!
TLS should play any burnt cd you throw at it..... I wouldn't use cheap brands though, like Staple and similar stuff.
For audio/mp3 I use TDK, cheap and perfect.

i'm gonna pay the dealership a visit tomorrow
and ask them where i can buy mp3s that arent burned
cause if thats the only type of cd the acura's play since 1996
they should be available somewhere
can you switch dealers?
cause i would so be down to do that

I'm not saying their first answer was appropriate or that your age should have anything to do with it but understand it probably will. Don't play into their stereotype of younger drivers, even if their wrong, it will only work against you. Be reasonable with them and can the sarcasm. You are going to have to prove it's not something wrong with your burns. I'd make you do the same.
You might rather try one of your CDs in another car on the lot. If it doesn't play in that one too then it's definitely something you are doing. If it does play in the other car then "bingo" you've made your case.
Yes, you can change dealers. Or use more than one. Whatever you want. It's an Acura and can be serviced by any Acura dealership (Honda dealership depending on the service - oil changes, etc).
The only advantage of using the dealer you bought from is that you have a pre-existing relationship with the sales side. Not a big advantage, but an advantage none the less.
