Subwoofer/amp advice!

Ok so i have an 05 tl and my stock subwoofer rattles a little so i am interested in getting subs and an amp, my questions are:

Should i get one 12in or two 10in subs?
How many watts does my amp need to be for both options?
I see JL is very popular but i only want to spend around $200 per sub so what brands/models are good and around that price?

One 12 or 2 10s is up to you. Either of these will overwhelm a stock front stage.

A single Sundown Audio SA-12 with a 600W amp would be nice.

You will need to fix the rear deck rattles when you install the new sub. You can search for a ton of threads on how to do this.

i wouldn't be installing it myself because im 17 and don't know a lot but i called a place that installs them and told him my stock subwoofer rattles a little and i think he said it wouldn't matter if i installed a sub because its so powerfull or that he disconnects the stock subwoofer? Im not sure, if that doesn't make sense then he said something else, sorry for my stupidity im new to this lol

If it is "rattling" because it is damaged or torn, then just unhooking it will be fine. If you take the stock sub out, you have more places for the sound to get from the trunk to the cabin.

If the trim and deck rattles, then the new sub will make them worse.

i think it is just damaged or torn because its only a little rattling in the back. How are pioneer or kenwood subwoofers? And what is the sound difference between having one 12 or two 10? (Sorry for all the questions im trying to learn)

Some pioneers are cool, so is the kenwood shallow mount

depends on the subs, power, box...bunch of variables.

In a perfect world, 2 10's would be louder due to more cone area and motor force

On the other hand, you might have to buy a pair of lesser quality tens when you could buy a higher quality single twelve... so the output to quality factor could be better with a nicer single 12. A $350 12 could very well be more effective than a pair of $175 10s.

There are literally so many variables, that it is nearly impossible to recommend stuff like this. Start with trunk space. If you value your trunk space, then go with a single 12. If you don't care, then you are back to choosing.

If you really want to learn, search. This topic has been covered a thousand times.

Are you dead set on getting a new system for more bass or is it just the rattling that you are concerned about? I'm surprised no one as asked if the rattle is truly coming from the speaker itself or is it one of the various rattle spots in the rear window/deck area. Just a thought

No ive always planned on getting a subwoofer, the rattling is just speeding up the process.

i had a rattle coming from my rear deck area when the sub would beat. i tracked it down from the trunk. it was the vent for the defroster for that rear window. i just wedged a chunk of paper in and it seems to be fine now.
