You shouldn't run your stock sub with an aftermarket sub. It's best to unhook it in that case. It is possible to control an aftermarket sub from your head unit, I'll let someone with more knowledge than me explain how.

What do you mean by "Control"? If you use an LOC (Line Output Converter) to connect to your aftermarket sub's amp, you will retain the control of every feature on the factory nav screen. +1 on disconnecting your stock sub with an aftermarket setup.

remote gain knob is a handy thing
the HU will change how much lows a track plays, but it won't let you adjust the gain
it may be useful beyond the initial setup as well, depending on the range of music you enjoy

Yes, a remote gain would be awesome.

No you cant control the sub level from your factory radio but like the other guys said, you can install a remote bass knob to control the gain from the dash without having to go to the amp to adjust it.

installing a sub will not disable HU's sub level control
a remote gain will no doubt provide a wider adjustment range, but once the gain is set to a reasonable level, the sub level will remain adjustable via sub control of the HU

So let me get this str8, the factory HU can control the gain on the aftermarket sub with an aftermarket amp like it does with the factory sub? Didnt think that was possible.

it doesn't contol the gain, it controls the level of the input signal
just like when you change the volume on the HU
