Sub suggestion

Ive read a lot of good things about the Image dynamics ID8V.3-D4 and I know that a lot of people have it. I'm just curious as to how people here have it wired for optimum sound. I am really looking to replace the stock sub for better sound. Thanks for any input.

You won't get anything by switching to an aftermarket 8" sub in a free-air config. Not sure if your looking for better sound or to get louder but adding a different 8" won't do either. Why not put it in a box and add an amp??

Thanks for the update. Some people were saying they have done it with all the stock goodies. Here is a thread that I have looked at.

Ya that is what I figured that without a box in the back I'm pretty Mach sol. Im just trying to keep the little truck real estate that I already have.

It doesn't have to take a ton of room you know. You can find amps that can fit under the seats, and a truck box with half a cube flush up against the back seat will be really compact. Or a IB setup can be pretty compact too. Unfortunately its all much more complicated that just popping in a new speaker.

Thanks for all the input, ya if I were to do something it would be with the JL TW5 since it requires little to no space. I would just eliminate one side in the trunk and mild it in there.

These don't take up much room at all, you can find an amp to fit under your seats or mount it on the other side of the trunk, etc. Will be much louder, sound 10x better, and give you a smile instead of a frown

If you want to use practically no space and sound great with good tight bass and great low end, this sub is for sale for $150 and works great in IB. They're hard to find now, I would jump all over it if I needed one. I've personally heard this setup and highly recommend it. Search for "Neel". He's been featured in mags and competes with this setup. I listened for 2 hours to this setup and it's what made me go IB.

^ haha

Did you just reference a thread....that referenced a thread....that had the item for sale? Have you ever looked at the Arc 15 specs to see if it'd be a good IB performer? It's supposedly built from some ID engineers when they left ID and went to ARC, and modeled off the IDq v2 or v3.

OP- IB is always a nice space saver with low power requirements. Requires a little bit of work to build the baffle but nothing too crazy. If you can't remove the rear seat and bolt a baffle up, you don't need to be touching the car lol. IB, the side boxes I referenced above, or small sealed up near the rear seats is the only way to go.

Lol. I thought that might look retarded or just lazy (which it was). It would have taken me at least 5 seconds to open up DIYMA to post a direct link.

Never looked at the ARC subs but I have heard that rumor. My memory is failing me but it seems like there was a good reason why everyone wants the v2 version of that sub for IB but I can't remember why. Maybe it's just been tried so many times that people are comfortable with it.

You are the BEST!!!! Exactly what i was looking to do if i wasn't going to replace the stock sub. And of course works with the sub that i would get if i wasn't replacing the stock sub haha, you read my mind man thanks. Now do people typically keep both subs connected or do they disconnect the stock sub.

I'm definitely gonna go with the wicked, looks like a lot cleaner setup. As a side note, Will this be a rattle fest? Not really fond of rattle but i can deal with it lol

Depends on what kind of power/sub you're running. I haven't heard someone using that so I dunno about rattles.

Definitely disconnect the stock sub
