strange isimple issues

everynow and then i have this issue with my isimple in my 07 type s...ill be driving down the street amd all of a sudden my music will stop play and it'll say ipod disconnected and then it'll reconnect again.

this happens regardless if im driving down a straight smooth road with bumps or no bumps..i thought maybe thethe wire that leads to the ipod was loose from the unit but it wasnt.

pulled out the side panels on the right hand side of the trunk to check for loose wires and everything was still plugged in..this started happening a few weeks ago and i had the unit in the car since nov 09

any suggestion on how to fix this or is my isimple unit bad?

When I was running firmware .36 I would have this problem. Since I have upgraded to the newest F/W I have not had this happen. I can't tell if it was because I had to take the PXAMG out and reflash the F/W and then when I reinstalled the PXAMG I reset the connections or if the F/W really is responsible but my feeling is that the F/W is part of the answer. Not to say that the latest F/W is without its issues but it really did seem to clean up this connection issue.

on a tl-s the unit installs in the trunk not behind the dash...i believe for 04-06 tl it installs behind the dash

Best to get the complete instructions from the PAC Audio web site:

http://pac-audio.com/firmware/iSimple/index.html

But the short form answer is you have to disconnect the negative battery cable (my recommendation), disconnect the PXAMG from the car, set one of the dip switches, connect the PXAMG to your computer, install the drivers on your PC, download the F/W update and reinstall.

does the unit have to be disconnected from the car to install the firmware or does it need power or whatever...

Disconnected. Any power it may need it can get through the USB you hook it up with.

So, I updating mine myself after Best Buy removed it yesterday afternoon. The guy was nice enough to tell me where they stuck it, under the center console, and how to remove it next time so I don't need to go see them. Anyway, the update process was a piece of cake. Just following the instructions on their site. After being careful and going through the instructions it took me back ten minutes. The pain part was installing the USB drivers. Things seem to be better. I've only been using it a day now, so I'll try to remember to post more in a few days after using it more. I did have them hook up the minijack so I could use my Tour with Pandora, so that seems good so far too.

Glad you're having luck so far. Which firmware did you upgrade to? I assume the newest, but just making sure.

its funny because while I reverted back to .38, it brought back my issues of the display disapearing. I would have to turn the car off/on in order to restore it.

Updating to the latest firmware brought issues where my ipod would magically enable itself to randon or continously playing the same song.

At this point, im thinking of just singing while driving. .....with the windows closed of course.

Mine also started to do this. It's also not very responsive. When I try to go through artists names, sometimes the dial doesn't do anything

Funny, this somewhat applies to me. However, in my case, its not so much that it "seems" completely disconnected, instead, it sounds as if my front right speaker is blown or the signal is in and out. But, when I turn it back to FM it is fine, and the speaker sounds fine. Is this the case with anyone else? please lmk... btw when did the newest update come out ?

Mine is doing that iPod Disconnected thing too, glad its not just me, but it still sucks that it is 2010 and I can't listen to my iPod in the car without all these issues. I am on the .36 firmware, I am thinking of upgrading though, I have the disappearing display and the iPod Disconnected issue. I am afraid if I upgrade the firmware I will end up with worse problems than I have now though. :/

Give the 778 firmware a try. I was running the .36 firmware and would occasionally have the iPod disconnected message. With the 778 firmware I have not had this happen.

I personally had a lot of problems with 778, mainly with initialization taking up to 20 minutes. It was really annoying driving to work and not being able to listen to my ipod, so I reverted back to 36, and haven't had a single problem since.

RBeach TL and Bucks13, have you guys had any issues with the display going completely blank and having to turn the car off and back on to get it back. What firmware will solve this issue, does anyone know?

That's weird. I've noticed that it takes longer, about 15-20 seconds, for the radio to kick in when I turn it on and the PXAMG is selected with the 778 firmware vs the .36 but not anything like minutes. Other that this slight delay I still have the catagory issue where the catagory data displays iPod. But with 778 my overall performance is more stable than .36. YMMV
