Stock amp. New speakers 'n' sub. Is it worth it?

I have an 05 TL/Navi and I was wondering if I change out my stock speakers and sub, would the amp be able to handle it? Would the sound quality get better? Or do I have to change out the amp to do this. I am looking to better the sound but keep the look stock. Ive been reading a lot of threads on here but can't seem to find a direct answer. If anyone could help out that be great. And if this change is possible, any recommendations on speakers to buy. Thank you so much.

Amps and all drivers need to go, You need a quality line driver and decent amps and quality speakers to really make a deference,

Speakers will make a difference but you'll never realize their potential sound quality or output without an amp. There's always the chance you'll lose output if they're less efficient than stock.

I did speakers first and about a year later an amp. The difference with the amp was at least as big as just the speakers. It really woke up and made the stock rears sound much better.

Do both if you can.

Its in the passenger footwell, and once you have physically seen the OEM 6 channel amp you will instantly realize it would be better to upgrade that portion of your system. speaker improvements downstream from a poor signal to begin with yields poor results.

busa, do you attend any OC meets where your system can be heard?

What amp should I put in there? I'm really new at this stuff. And is there an amp out there that I can easily just swap out?

Afaik there's no direct replacement. Leave it there to power your center channel and rears. Get new amp(s) to power your doors, tweeters and subs. What amp to go with depends on your budget $$ and how good you want your system.

I'm on the fence if I wanna do this or not, I've run 4 channel amps before and they are tits but for what I listen to 90% of the time I just want a little more bass so I am gonna add a sub amp. I've really only came up with 2 options for near plug and play front door speakers since the stock amp runs them at 2 ohms, Infinity Reference or Kappa, or JBL GTO series. A lot of people on here are bashing the Infinity ones but I don't think it's that much of a gamble at about $50 a pair. The Kappas have the highest sensitivity out of of those so they should play the loudest, but the stock amp is kinda weak. I understand that the speakers won't be at their full potential, but has anybody that run them thought they outright sucked compared to stock?

Where are you located, Best to find a small group of other Cae Audio enthusiasts and hang out with them or join DIYMA.com and look and read the installs and chack out the things done here to the TL.

I 've gone through 3 major system changes in my TL, and tried 5-7 different top shelf drivers. Maybe in excess of 70 grand in gear and installs trying this and that, I've owned every top-end driver made, and can tell you the best thing to do is, Get a Sub & Amp, An decide to go passive its easier or Active for the front channels. Once you can decide how deep you what to get into this dont do anything, Listen to some system, Make your mind up and do it. But do it right the first time. Unless your like me and want to waist money. I dont report to a Wife. So I pretty much do what I want.

Everybody says this, but guess what.. most people don't know what they want until they try it. Many have upgraded or changed, again and again. Is it because we need to experiment and experience it before we really understand what it is we want? If your fortunate enough to be around ppl that have different quality audio systems it can be very helpful.
Btw the setup in your sig looks killer.

a_ruggiero and 350, what did you guys end up doing? I blew my stock woofer and ended up throwing in an old mtx amp + 10" mtx sub I had. This made a huge improvement - bass is tighter/cleaner and much lower and there's no rear deck rattling. I have another older amp I'm considering adding to amp the fronts but need to do more research first.

Just do the Dynaudio Esotar as your first system and you're done.

Seriously though I wish I would have done it right the first time, I could have saved a lot of money.

Jon2000- if you're talking about amping the stock speakers, it makes a very noticeable improvement in sound quality. You have to be careful not to run them too low. I could give them almost all my 75w/channel amp had but I had to high pass them between 120-140hz or they would bottom out. The stocks will get pretty loud with an amp and they will last as long as you use a reasonable high pass filter. You might want to make sure whatever amp you use has one built in.

Looks like the amp I may be using (Kenwood KAC-628) has a HPF switch which is set to 150Hz. Does this sound reasonable? The input sensitivity is between .15V - 4.0V. Would this need a line driver? Looks like this amp will do 75W x 2 at 2ohm. I created a new thread for this topic at: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/any-benefit-using-old-amp-i-have-884710/ as well.

Thanks!
Jon

I had an 800 watt Alpine mono amp and 2 MTX 12's sitting around that I installed basically cause it was free at this point. Obviously no comparison to stock but having the subs in the trunk instead of the deck near eliminates any rattles. After I did that i wanted the front stage to be just a little clearer so I got Infinity Kappa 6.5" speakers for about $70, still on the stock amp. Just a hair louder than the stock speakers and definately clearer but will not blow you away. I have no intention of adding another amp anytime soon, gotta stay on a budget for now and it is an improvement over stock. I Dynamatted the front doors which may be the difference I hear over stock.
