Steering wheel controls on the fritz
Steering wheel controls on the fritz
For the past 2 weeks or so (I pretty much only use XM) when I change the volume on the steering wheel, it sometimes changes the chanel instead. Happens a lot in the morning. Yes, I am positive I am hitting the volume and not channel button. Anybody else experience this or have any ideas? Thanks.
Mine (2004) started acting up in the same way this week. The volume up and channel up will sometimes send a "channel down" signal. Completely intermittent, but seems to happen most often when you haven't used the wheel controls for a while.
I had the same problem with my 91 Legend, and was never able to get rid of it, even after replacing both the wheel control and the radio with different, but used, components.
I haven't looked at the TL schematic, but the Legend used a single wire for all the buttons. The wheel control switches were connected to different value resistors, and the radio would sense the resistance then execute the proper command.
If the TL design is similar, the problem could be on either end, but I'm guessing that the switch is the problem. Maybe bad resistors or dirty contacts that change the resistance slightly. It's definitely annoying.
