Static in Radio

Have you guys ever run into a problem where when you put your rear defroster on and listening to the radio all you get through the speakers in static? I am probably going to visit the dealership this weekend to complain, but I wanted to know if anyone else has experianced this and may or may not have some advice for me. Thanks.

Yes, I also have that problem although it doesn't happen every time the rear defroster is on but most times. Keep us informed of what the dealer says/does.

Atenna + Defroster are in the same glass.. maybe one of your contacts on the rear window has been scuffed or something and they are touching.. o_O Did you have window tint installed?

I have had cars where this happens. Some worse than others. Seemed to affect weak radio signals the most.

I have not noticed this in either Acura TL ('02 & '07).

This I knew of. I had tint but I had it removed this weekend and the static is actually worse without the tint, and it is everytime that I have the defroster on with the radio no matter what station. Could be coming in clear as day without the defroster and nothing but static with.

My 2006 TL does this too, rear window was never tinted. I can't get ANY FM stations with rear defrost turned on. I've only had the car one month, so I haven't had it checked out yet (but the XM makes it much easier to deal with)

Where is the plug that comes from the rear window to the wiring harness? Ever since I got my car out of the bodyshop, I've had little to no FM reception. They removed lots of interior pieces.

I don't know where the plug is located, but I may have a look in the trunk (around the deck lid speakers) to see if there are any type of ground connections for the defrost or the antenna.

Has anyone found a fix for this problem yet. I have had to use my defroster all week and it is getting annoying. Forcing me to hurry up and buy an ipod kit

Argh.. thread revival. Both the antenna & the defroster sit on the rear window. When you turn on the defroster a low current is sent through the lines which may cause electromagnetic interference with the antenna that sits around it. The only solution is to check the ground on the antenna and verify that it's secure.. if it is or if you secure it and you still get emi, then the best solution is to bypass the in glass antenna and install an aftermarket antenna. There are other alternate fixes to the issue but it's a bit more complicated. It'll probably be easier to subscribe to XM or listen to a cd / ipod when your rear defroster is on.

i bought my tl about 6 months ago and i had the exact same problem. The problem is with the lines/defroster in the rear window. the antenna is built into the window and when the lines get scratched it interferes with the FM signal. You will notice that your am stations and xm work fine right? it is only the fm?

after two trips to the dealer and them trying to "fix" the lines, they replaced the entire rear window under warranty.

the problem has nothing to do with any ground wires or connections, it is the window itself. Trust me, i just went through this same exact thing! hopefully this helps you guys.
