Splash screen 4.55a help needed

OK, I followed all instructions to change the start screen - absolutely no error messages when at the cmd prompt. Extracted the new Opening1.bmp from the bin file and it was the new image.
Went to load the new files, (used a CD-R) again no problems - screen showed the files being uploaded - but when it finished, I still had the old splash screen.

Now, upon further investigation I noticed the Opening1.bmp in the unmodded bin file is not the same as what comes up on my screen. I have looked thru the 07Touch2.bin file and I don't believe the startup screen is even there.

The two files I found were Opening1.bmp and OpeningBase.bmp - the second is the picture but no wording???

When I followed the steps above and changed the Opening1.bmp the original size in the bin file was 224722 and the updated size was 42794 - is this normal (even though it appears to be the wrong file anyway)?

This is getting too wordy, sorry, I was just hopping someone smarter then me (not to hard) has solved this little dilemma.

What instructions are you referring to? I was under the impression that all the screen hacks posted applied to earlier versions of the navi...I thought us 4.xx folks were still waiting for a hero.

I found the instructions here --> Navigation Hack Guide: Welcome Screen Mod, Trip Computer, OK Button Nag Removal ( 12345678910 ... Last Page ) <--

I guess it was too good to be true...

I see...

Looks like this is to modify the splash screen only. I'm waiting for an OK button override.

I think we are all waiting to lose that OK button!

Have you been able to change your splash screen?

No, haven't tried. I was kinda waiting to see if someone would teach us to lose the OK button.

What are you using for the new image and where did you get it from? It seems that your new image size is very small and is possibly compressed (JPG/GIF file renamed as BMP?)

Make sure your picture is indeed 256 color BMP. Here is a quote from the huge thread linked above for the 4.X system. I highlighted some interesting points.

Got info on how to hack the Startup Screen for 2007 TL's. Worked on mine w/White Disk v4.55.

It's basically the same as a hack for the 2006 Civic. Guy named Guicide has some instructions online here: http://www.guicide.com/cars/2006civic/nav/hacks/ . Instead of using his 06AVN2.bin file, you use the 07Touch2.bin file from the TL v4.55 DVD. All the other instructions are pretty much the same. (They are very detailed, so even a computer novice should be able to follow without a problem.)

Pay special attention to the file size. Has to be 480 by 234 pixels and 256 colors BMP and you need to use his 8to16 program on it. Some of the Graphics in the TL thread are a different size. (off by a few pixels). I used the Lo/Jack graphic, increased the size using Paint and saved it and used it, no problem.

You do have to use a DVD (dual layer) to burn it correctly (UDF). I used DVD-R, not sure if an RW will work (do they even make Dual Layer RW disks?). Heard reports no for the 06, but haven't tested it on the 07 yet.

The Load instructions are off by just a little. You shouldn't get the "error" screen that he got for the Civic, but the rest of the procedures are the same to bring up the diagnostics menu and download the new DVD info. Once you boot and hit ok, do the keypresses and download like he shows.

Now... Working on the OK screen text and elimination of the OK button are our next challenges.

Here is the image I am trying to use. The size of the file on my hard drive is 220KB - but it changed when I updated the .bin file>>>

So let me get this right, you have 4.55 (4.55a??) and were able to change the screen? Using the same instructions? So, how come the original Opening1.bmp on the disc is not the same image loading on my screen???

i used those instructions, but had a problem getting a blank screen....you have to copy the image after you resize and index, then paste it in ms paint then save it as a bmp...only way i have got it to work right....i kept getting the wrong size if i didnt do it like that.

OK, I don't want to continue to beat this to death, but two questions.
  1. Do I have to use a DVD or will a CD suffice?
  2. Why is the original Opening1.bmp in the bin file not the image that loads on my screen? (there is a back.bmp which is the correct image but lacks the text ie. Acura Naviation...)
I have followed the image manipulation process EXACTLY as outlined, but no luck. The car even shows the new files being uploaded, but the screen remains the same - going crazy over here!!
