what to you want to aim for by replacing the speakers? More volume/loudness? Clarity? Performance? Bass that shakes the whole street?

We are going to need a bit more info before we can provide any insight!

Id say you would spend somewhere around $600 - $800 if you are just going to replace the factory speakers and run it off the factory amp. The rattle is not from the subs but more from loose items in the trunk or rear deck. Hope that helps.

If you plan on using the stock amp, go with the Infinities. A nice upgrade from stock, they bolt right in, and they're very efficient giving a little more volume over stock.

If you're installing an aftermarket amp for the mids and highs, it's really personal preference. I really like my Image Dynamics CTX65cs. Very, very good for the $175 they go for but again, you may hate them.

Subs again are personal preference and it really makes a difference on what you're looking for, SQ or SPL. I'm far from an expert in this field, many others can help you more. I love the sound of JL. Image Dynamics also make very good subs a little cheaper than JL. There are many, many options out there.

Does anybody have specs for the factory amp? How many watts RMS per channel and at what Ohm?

You don't need to replace the head unit. You can get a LOC (line out converter) if you decide to run a separate amp to power your new speakers instead of running the stock amp. You would be better getting an aftermarket amp then trying to get a replacement head unit.

bulding sound systems are a lot like bulding computers in that you dont HAVE to get everything the best theing is to find whats best for you. based on your orginal post i would suggest just gettnig speakers and replaceing them. if you want bass splice in a loc at the sub and put in a new sub.

later you can add in an aftermarket amp or equalizer and so forth I was told buy a lot of people to buy this and that and the other when i wanted to upgrade my speakers i decided to just get the polks i mentioned earlier and i was extreamly happy about the sound and i get complimented on it constantly. i also have a RF 12 in the trunk.

Hey can you PM me with the details of what you did, i'm interested in that exact thing. I'm looking at getting a TL and want to just put in more efficient speakers, (need a little louder) and then drop a basslink in the trunk and get rid of the stock sub. Also some sort of Ipod input. Thanks!

never mind i order 4 polk audio db651s for $100. i hope i made the right choice since i don't want to mess with the stereo deck or amp, just one the speaker to sound a little better. i read the reviews on amazon and everyone thinks they are amazing. how hard is removing the side panels, should i paid someone to do it.

Here's some I found that should work really well with the stock amp, someone correct me if i'm wrong, but putting these in, and then ditching the stock tweeters will let the 2ohms on these work correctly right?

Can you use these with the tweeters or does that throw things off?
