Speaker/Subwoofer...question... bear with me....

First off yes...I did search. I searched subwoofer problems and yes I am aware of rattle problem and I searched speaker problems...neither handled my exact inquiry...anyway...here goes.....

I know about the rattle from the rear deck that occurs usually at about anything about 30 on the volume...I dont mind that..But the other day I noticed something at first that sounded like it was cracking..just sounded nasty. At first I thought it was the rear speaker...but then when I turned the woofer totally off it stopped... So I think(Not a audio guy so I don't know for sure)its the woofer..Crazy thing is it only makes that severe cracking noise on certain songs. I can play other songs with heavy bass and all I get is the normal rattle, but on like 65% of songs I get that real nasty loud cracking..

Dude at the stereo shop said because its a factory system that if I replace the woofer I have to replace everything..is that accurate? And another question is, is the woofer actually blown or am I just turning it up to high?..

Any advice is greatly appreciated..

It might be blown.
but no, audio guy is full of shit. You dont necessarily have to replace EVERY component.

If you suspect the woofer is blown just replace it with the same stock woofer found from acura.

if you're needing a little extra bass then a dedicated sub/sub box/amp will do.

He said that since no aftermarket woofer will match up exactly that I would have to replace all speakers, the amp, tweeters...the whole thing...

full of crap.
what are you wanting to do? replace the stock woofer, or are you needing more sound out of your system?

Most likely it is blown.
And no, you do not need to replace the entire system just to replace the woofer.

I believe you can buy a replacement part from Acura for $60.00? Something along the lines of that.

If you want to add more bass into your songs I suggest:
An aftermarket subwoofer
A mono-amplifier
LOC (Line-Out Converter)

You can keep everything else stock and enjoy the little extra bass.

Center Dash Speaker = 3-1/2", 4-ohm, 15W RMS
Dash Tweeters = 1-1/2" (approx), 4-ohm, 15W RMS
Front Door Woofers = 6-1/2", 2-ohm, 20W RMS
Rear Deck Speakers = 6-1/2", 2-ohm, 20W RMS
Rear Deck Subwoofer = 8", 2-ohm, 40W RMS

If you are looking into an aftermarket 8" subwoofer, look for 40W RMS @ 2-ohms.
Perhaps their maybe a fitting issue, but due to limitation of network restrictions, this is the farthest I can help you out.

I was thinking about getting an aftermarket only because after reading on this forum it seems that the factory woofer isn't really built to handle constant play at levels above 35..The sound is fine for me but I like it at atleast 36...

Thanks.. my thing I told him was that I didnt even want more bass, the factory was fine for me, its just that it seems like the woofer cant handle the output..the factory sound is great to me.

There are DIY's on here where some members have replaced the factory sub with an aftermarket 8" subwoofer (pioneer, I think). I disconnected my factory sub and just installed an aftermarket one. I have a small DIY on here if you search my username.

Ok..I found the part...

But I have one last question. Being that I like to play my music at 35 or better, wont that just blow the replacement too?...

Am I better off just buying an aftermarket woofer? Because now that I think about it, wont I get the same result?...

Im satisfied with factory sound but it seems like the factory woofer can't handle its own sound.

Honestly I would upgrade. I bought a new Rockford 12" SVC 4 ohm subwoofer w/ box on Ebay for $90. Max watts are 500watts on the sub and rms 300watts. I am glad I upgraded. Hope this helps out some. Pm me if you have any specific questions.

There are sometimes stock subs on ebay that were pulled when replaced. Try a salvage yard too... there are some 2004s that are starting to show up.

Take the old one out (you need to anyway). See if it is torn, or if it is blown. If the face/foam is torn just a little bit, then use some shoe goo on it until you get your new one - it works... for a while. Sometimes the shoe goo will work for quite some while. If it is torn badly, or blown, then trash it.

Take the $200 and upgrade to aftermarket. You have a few choices, from a replacement in the stock location to adding a box in the trunk (what I did). I recommend going aftermarket---stock speakers just have too many compromises engineered into them. You won't be sorry adding some bass to the car, as I always thought that was the weakest part of the otherwise very good factory sound system.

It does seem as if you need more bass than the factory set up is giving you. However, you get into a cost issue.

An aftermarket amp+sub+box will probably run you at the very least $300. A 10" should really be fine. Like many have said, there are OEM subs that people sell when they upgrade their systems.

One other thing: that guy who said you'd have to replace your entire system? Don't go to him again.

More than just an issue of whether you want MORE bass ... quality of bass as well as longer, guaranteed reliability (warranty on aftermarket subs and amps) would be at least two benefits that warrant an aftermarket system ... Consider asking eggyhustles, mattastick, kingofpain, jptl04, etc. for suggestions/advice

EDIT: That is, I'm saying quite a few benefits justify the cost of an aftermarket system if that's what you're looking for

For that price you could go aftermarket is what I meant.

If you really want the stock sub, I took mine out when the car was brand new, I'll give it to you for next to nothing but I really think you should consider aftermarket.
