wHAT ARE SOME RECOMMENDATION ABOUT UPGRADING THE FACTORY SPEAKER SYSTEM? I want to add a new subwoofer, replacing the 6.5" on the rear with 8 or 10 '. Should I replace the front center, right & left front, and right &left rear. What is the best way to save money and still get a decent quality sound systems? What can I do away with? What ever feedback I get would be very insightful. Thanks in advance. Oh yah, would i need a signinal processor, 2 amps (1 -2 channel and 1 4-channel)?

Just adding a sub woofer makes an EXTREME improvement. If you're not a hardcore audio buff, you'd be very happy.

When you add an aftermarket sub, it allows you to turn the bass down on the rest of the smaller factory speakers. Doing this eases the output of the speaker, since it's not straining to produce bass out of a small speaker.

It makes your existing factory speakers sound twice as crisp and clear, and they can go reasonably loud without distorting, all while having great bass from your new sub!

That's the cheapest and easiest way to go...

Do you mean replacing the factory subwoofer or just adding on another subwoofer. Now when I turn the subwoofer on to 3-6 setting, it starts rattling. I can't figure it out yet if it has to do with the panel rattling or the subwoofer is blown. You recommendation is quite helpful, I was once a sound freak as you too but since I am getting older it's not really important. My other option would be replace all the stock speakers with components system speaker and put in a 4 channel amps instead. what do you think of that instead installing a pair of 10" subwoofer with 2 channel amp?

Thumbs up

new to acurazine

a few weeks ago i wanted to upgrade the sounds on my 2nd gen so i bought a set of 12" pioner premiers and a 1445 watt amp and went nuts tryin to figure how to install it..... was gonna put in a new head unit but i found out its a factory amplified system so i would have to re wire every speaker to get the new head unit to work so f' that idea. i had to get a high/low converter to attach to the back of the stock radio, THEN go thru hell trying to get the security code for it from Acura....not fun

in the end, the bass is amazing. i do turn the bass down and just turn the trebble up and it sounds awesome. only problem i had afterwards was my rear view mirror started to rattle and two days ago i bout the new young jeezy cd and mid way thru the first song it raddled it right off, nothin a little crazy glue didnt fix

i dont think u'll need aftermarket speakers, mine work just fine with the subs.

BTW the stock radio doesnt play burnd CD's but i heard somewhere some stock radios play only certain burnd CD's, anyone know if this is true?

My 07 plays burned CD's just fine... *shrugs*

I went out and bought a 2x10" JL-audio box last night, with a 1500-Watt amp... will report back with results!

Like I was saying, JUST adding a sub, and dis-connecting the factory sub, will give you a HUGE improvement.

subwoofer

Thanks for the suggestion. What do you think of removing the factory subwoofer and replacing it with 1 10" subwoofer? Would you think it will fit on the rear panel without doing modification, like cut portion of the panel? I was thinking of doing that way, instead of putting a box to save room in the trunk and just add an amp and an equializer...

Almost all subs these days require a sealed or properly designed ported box...

You can't just mount a high-end sub in the open air, it will sound like garbage.

You can get away with it, with cheap factory subs like the stock one, since they're really not outputting THAT much.

Note to everybody...

A typical sub set-up with a new '07 w/noise cancellation will NOT work... investigating as we speak...

rear deck rattle with bass is common on 3g tl...if still in warranty see dealer for fix...some dealers better at it than others...or search on this site for rattles...good luck

Update:

You need to unplug the 2 microphones that sense the noise for the cancellation system... then it works fine. All voice commands and blue tooth still work, since they use different mics...

There's a tiny one near the front dome lights, as well as right behind the rear dome lights.

For now, this is really the ONLY way to enjoy a powerfull aftermarket sub, with a new Type-S only...

why not free air??

A properly set up free air system will work just fine. Free air systems typically have a flatter and smoother sound than any boxed woofer system. Any speaker in any box is going to have its peaky notes where a free air system wont. You should do 1 10 mounted from underneath. Keep all of your trunk. I could tell you how to set everything up. PM me for more info if interested. I install at Speakerworks in Orange, CA and we do a lot of free air systems. Havent heard a compaint yet.

You can mount free air subs in the open air and it will overall sound good. It will not "bump" to the extremes as a sealed/ported box, but the overall sound quality is way better than stock. So if you dont plan to blast the crap out of your system while driving in the hood, i'd suggest looking into free air subs.

I have a pioneer 10" free air mounted on my SC300's rear deck. I paid like $50 for the free air sub and about $100 for an amp. Sounds good for a cheap system, bumps pretty well, and i get to keep my trunk space which is limited on the SC.

does anyone have a link on where i can find out how to put in a aftermarket sub in place of the factory one. like do you have to take apart the whole panel along the top? or is there access to it from inside the trunK?

I'm not sure about it, but I plan to tackle it within a month or so.

Did you unplug the right ones?

There's a small one in the front, and a small in the back of the car. Make sure you're not unplugging the "voice command" mics.

Also, I would suggest using the rear for your input to the sub, and make SURE to use a "High/Low" converter.

If you use the front speakers, your sub will cut out with your front speakers, when the nav is talking to you, and you don't want to keep interupting the sub signal constantly.
