Sirius vs. XM Antenna

Does anyone know if the antenna trim is the same for XM and Sirius. I would like to put the Sirius Stargate in my 06 TL and would like to use the XM antenna rather than running the Sirius one through the car.

Thanks,

I have read (not sure where, but I know I've seen it some where on the web...) that you can use the wiring for the XM antenna and splice in the Sirius one. Not sure of the wiring schematic or how difficult it would be to do, but if this sounds familiar to anyone else, please chime in!!! I'm going to surf around a little more to see if I can't find where I read this info

I'm dying to install the Sirius SV1 in my car and get rid of XM, but I really don't want to have an antenna stuck to my rear deck or on the trunk lid for that matter .

Erok,

Based on the specs above, I doubt if the antennas are interchangeable. The frequency ranges differ by too much.

I intend to do Dinot's install, found here: Dino's Install , in the next couple of weeks. Rest assured that I will try the XM antenna before running the wire for the Sirius one and will report back.

jfk - I found a few links that say you can use the XM antenna and still receive Sirius.... I'm not really a tech guy, so how difficult this swap might be, I am not sure, but some people are doing it with great results. Admittedly, some of these look like home Sirius installs, but some are also people, like us, who have some sort of XM in-car (portable or otherwise) and are using existing XM equipment for Sirius. I hope they help!!!

I'll look around for more info, but it looks like it's possible.

Erok,

Thanks for the info.

I'll let you know in a week or so if the XM antenna works.

i asked a best buy tech if it was possible to use the xm antenna in the third gen tl. he said it would. he said that the newer antennas are interchangable. i did a test w/a home kit. the antenna from the home kit for xm radios worked. i was able to get a signal. hmm i wonder if the xm radio antennas are better. cause i can not get sirius in the office, but i have some coworkers that can get xm though. anyone else?

A little known fact about XM:

In some locations, XM transmits it's signal from terrestrial repeaters, that's why I never experience signal loss here in Pittsburgh. I get reception in parking garages, tunnels etc. This is a big reason I preferred XM over Sirius.
