Sirius Starbase Install

Hello, everyone, new guy here with a couple of questions regarding a Sirius Starbase installation for an '06 TL.

1. I've seen some great posts here of other people's Starbase installation and want to do something similar, I was curious as to where a good place would be to put the Sirius tuner. I read where one guy put it under the passenger seat, is there just no room under the dash? What have other people done?

2. Is the factory installed XM tuner in the right rear of the trunk behind the lining? The car currently is not at home, so I can't go out and look.

3. I came across a guy in another forum who says he can fabricate a kit that will splice the proprietary Acura/Honda XM antenna coax lead termination to an adaptor cable that ends with a RA SMB plug to match the Sirius tuner. He says he's having a lot of success running the Sirius tuner through the factory installed XM antenna, any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance, I'm getting a lot of great info from this forum.

1. I found this thread with a search: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=sirius

2. The XM tuner is the silver box that you see in this picture I've borrowed from kennyc's rear camera install thread. It is indeed behind the lining on the right side of the trunk.

3. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the photo, datmrman. That link you posted actually inspired me to try this. I've ordered a kit that should allow me to splice the XM antenna to the Starbase tuner, should be able to do it by the end of the week.

If anyone is interested, I got my Starbase installed today in my '06 and successfully integrated the factory installed XM antenna with the new Sirius tuner. I came across a guy in a Sirius forum who said he could fabricate an adaptor that would connect the XM lead to the Sirius cable, and I'm here to tell you that it works. If anyone is interested, here's a link to the Sirius thread that explains the process: Honda OEM XM antenna adapter connector, and a couple of pics, one showing the signal strength which was about 70% in my driveway. I didn't check anywhere else, but it sounds as good as the XM did. Yeah, I copied the install af several other members, thanks for the ideas.

Looks good! It's nice that you didn't have to put in a different antenna for the Sirius. Having another antenna visible would've looked bad.

Very nice indeed.

Too bad you had Circuit City install it. Otherwise we could have a new DIY guide.

Do you have any pictures of the fabricated adapter? Members will be interested in prices. Parts and labor?

Actually, CC wasn't my first choice, I went to several local places first and they wouldn't even try it. CC was the only place in town to step up, and did a fantastic job. I did watch a lot of it so if anyone has a specific question, I can try to answer it.

I got my adaptor for $47, parts, labor, and shipping. I think it was worth it to keep another antenna off my car. If you go here Honda OEM XM antenna adaptor there are quite a few pics of the adaptor and a good explanation of how it works. There is also contact info for the guy who made it.

I haven't verified this yet, but I think even though the Canadian TL's do not have XM, they still have the same port in the back of the head unit that most of the popular audio solutions plug into.

zax123 is located in Montreal, but he is using the Blitzsafe HON/AUX with his Drive+Play. Here is his thread. He also has an '05 TL.
