Sirius plans to offer local traffic reports
Sirius Satellite Radio announced plans Tuesday to offer local traffic reports, hoping to beat services offered by market leader XM Satellite Radio.
Sirius said in a statement it has contracted with traffic information service Navteq to provide live traffic data for 30 U.S. metropolitan areas. Beside audio reports, the service will work with in-car navigation systems to update maps and routing services.
"Combined with an in-car navigational system, consumers will be able to accurately determine the most direct routes through the mapping function, while being continuously informed about potential delays or incidents that could disrupt their travel plans," Jim Meyer, Sirius president of operations and sales, said in the statement.
I wonder whether this will put pressure on XM to provide the kind of service it's offering for the RL to other navigation systems, namely the TL.

Thanks for the news...
IMO, this will help the future TL'rs getting the Real-time traffic Navi system, plus enhance our chance to get the aftermarket products/upgrade (either from Acura or other brands) earlier. This is supposed to be a good news to us...
Thanks for the info... I agree with rets - I think this will help our chances of getting this technology sooner. I personally (no facts to backup) believe that the navtraffic will be offered in the 06' TL - and I doubt there will be any major changes, so perhaps simply a software upgrade will do the trick.
If not that, I THINK it would be very possible to change out the dvd drive (to get the faster processor thats in the RL and MDX now) that will be available in the 06 TL (I think it will be at least)... then with the new software, we will have our navtraffic.
yay
