Samsung Instinct Pairing Problem
Guys,
I have a problem that's happened to me on and off with each new phone I've had. The problem in short is when I pair a phone through HFL it goes through fine, but then at the "What would you like to name your phone?" step, it beeps and exits out after I say a name.
In the past I'd try this over and over until it finally worked, but now with the Instinct it never goes through even after 15+ attempts.
Any clue on what's happening here? Workarounds or suggestions appreciated.
Thanks!
Collin

yea there are various bugs here and there floating around; not only just with the instinct.
- if you take it to the dealer, they will just tell you that the instinct isnt on the dealer list of phones FULLY compatible with the TL.
i dont really know how the phonebook uploading works on the newer TL's but one of your better bets may be to just store those numbers on the TL's memory and not pair it phone -> car, but rather car -> phone.
i have an 04 and my LG prada (KE 850) doesn't have the phonebook problem, but still has issues with the HFL, but then my bro's new KF750 Secret pairs absolutely fine with no glitches whatsoever.

Yeah, I don't get it. This happens even with phones that are on their comaptibility list. Unfortunately, since I'm at 60K in milage I'm out of warranty and avoid the dealerships as much as possible.
I did a search and saw a few guys with the same problem but no real response to a resolution. I think I might be stuck. DOH!
Question, what is the reason for naming the phone? Is it if you have multiple phones that are paired or something?
I just bought an LG Dare, cool phone, and things seemed to work out ok, not sure about paring the phone book though. My last phone couldnt, so i forgot about that feature. I did have issues connecting after the initial try, the phone said there was no bluetooth signal to connect to or something, but eventually it did.

I know its something wonky with the HFL unit because all these phones pair perfectly with my brothers car, 1st try, all the time.
try playing around a bit more with the settings on the Instinct; it's also possible that the there is some "magical" bug that happens on the Verizon platform for the samsung and the Honda HFL. i know it sounds totally bogus but i've found out more often than not, most of the phones i've bought in the states with the reflashed service provider programs compromise some part of the phone.
i dug out some of my old phones today and tried pairing them, and an old D-809 had the same problem you're having. You hit the button to say the phone and like 1 sec later it makes the closing sound; after like 10 attempts, it finally picked up some jarble of words, and i just left it at that.....
soo in short, just mutter SOMETHING and if it picks up, it picks up LOL ~ also try turning off your phone, and turn it on right when you're ready to pair it up (this worked for me on my KE850, when i had problems pairing it)

Finally paired!
First, thanks for the suggestions JCL.
I finally got this bad boy to pair. I can't say for sure what did it but here are some suggestions to try (in no particular order) for anyone else that comes across this problem.
- Turn off all other bluetooth phones in the area
- Rename your phone's BT ID (possible on most phones).
- When pairing, wait for the phone to confirm that it's finished - ignore the HFL prompt for a bit. Usually, the HFL will prompt for you to name the phone BEFORE the phone tells you everything is done. Wait.
- If underwarranty, check with dealership for replacement HFL module
I'm pretty sure by the time you get to the last suggestion you'll have a paired device. I used the above to even pair the other old phones I previously had problems with.
Good luck and thanks again for the help.

So, you did successfully pair a Verizon LG Dare? I e-mailed HFLs website and they said that the initial tests were good, but they couldn't officially call it compatible until more tests were done. I really want to get that phone, but I've been waiting for HFL or someone here to test it out and see how it works. How's voice quality through the HFL?
I paired my new Instinct with no problems - the HFL asked me to name the phone and when I gave it the old phones name it told me that would cause problems. I pushed the botton again and renamed the phone -'s instinct and it paired up fine.

Making a call from the phone, I have to press my Bluetooth button to talk via HFL. If I want to transfer back, normally I just press the bluetooth button again on the phone and the call transfers to the phone. Some times the button won't do a thing and I have to hangup and call back from the phone.
If anyone knows this issue, help is appreciated.
I have an 05 and never had any problems with my blackberry. I just tried pairing a samsung whatever and it would kick me out of the phone setup right after it asked me to name it. weird I guess ill try some of the stuff mentioned..

My Instinct paired up with no problems. Only issue I have is that from time to time, after the HFL says "Calling", the phone never rings through the speaker. When I drop the Bluetooth on the phone and speak directly into it, the person I was calling wonders why I held the phone so long without saying anything. Starting to happen more and more frequently
Ok im such a ritard! I figured it out yesterday. During the pairing process i thought that the car asks you to put your phone in discovery mode not only do you need to make it visible but you need to open the TRUSTED DEVICES page and it searches and all of a sudden it will pop up.
2 years it took to get my bluetooth back
