Thumbs up Review on Proclip cell phone holder for my Treo 650

I've been using the Proclip mount for 2 weeks now and here's my review. I bought 2 different Proclip car mounts and 2 different cell phone mounts for the TREO 650. You need to buy 2 pieces, one for the car and one for the phone/pda. I didn’t know which one I liked so I bought both and returned the ones I didn’t like. Please see pics and you will see what I’m talking about.

I ended up keeping the lower mount because it was easier to dial and less in-your-face. Visibility was better with the upper mount but my Treo was too bright at night. Also, it partially blocked the view of the driver's side temp display. The big disadvantage of the lower mount is that tall people could rest their leg on the mount, but it seems to be mounted securely.

Installation is very easy. Just peel the liner off the sticky tape and it snaps in, no tools necessary. Next, screw in the phone holder to the mount with the supplied screws into the pilot holes and that's it!

The phone fits nicely into the mount. There were 2 models to choose from. I kept the holder with the adjustable angle; I liked the ability to tweak the screen angle depending on the sun. I returned the regular mount which would probably be fine for regular phones. While this is not cheap (~$60 for both pieces) I am happy with my purchase.

With the lower mount, what do you do when you have a passenger? Their thigh is sure to hit your phone in that situation. Otherwise, great idea and thanks for your post.

all it should show in 'the green boxed area' as far as bluetooth is that a device is connected (the phone icon). Everything else would be in the MID, and would get displayed when using the HFL.

Damn thats pretty lame, i like how my non navi displays the signal strength around the radio screen. Its useful so i can glance at it and know if im able to make a call, i guess it doesn't matter what kind of bluetooth phone i get after i have the oem nav installed just as long as it works.

ahkim: the treo looks pretty cool i bet the mount makes it easier to do your pda work

Wouldn't happen with most Treo's anyway (except for recent Sprint FW). My wife's Verizon Treo 650 doesn't display signal strength on the non-nav display.

Ahkim, great pics and review, it is efforts like this that really make this a great forum, thanks.

Thanks for the comments!

Regarding the passenger issue, the pics posted were not the final mount. I actually mounted it as high as I could and surprisingly that helped. There's a little bit of space there. It's not a problem for my wife, but would be for a taller person. I will take a new pic soon.

I also have the Treo 650 mount for my TL. I have the one that attaches to the vents in the middle of the car, above the stereo. I like the positioning very much, but over time the stupid switch for silencing the ringer starts to vibrate. It's happened to me on two Treos now. It gets extremely annoying. I've decided to get an iPod cradle and use that on there instead and keep the Treo in one of the cup holders.

Proclip's stuff is excellent, albeit very expensive.

On my previous car, I used one of those phone/iPod holders that clips to the vent. It was great as far as holding the Treo in an ideal spot, but the weight of the mount and phone broke the vanes in the vent. I won't use one of those in my TL out of fear of breaking something that wasn't designed to support any weight.

Tim, the item numbers for the 2 pieces I kept are:

848590 - holder with tilt for treo 650- $35
853465- angled mount for TL- $30

The other parts are:

848090- standard holder for Treo - $30
853464- center mount for TL - $30

Just to clarify, the center mount does not use the vent as support so there should be no problems that bluenoise had.

Quake, I also have the same annoying problem with the ringer switch making noise, very annoying.

Here is a pic that shows the passenger side with someone sitting.
