Replacing Factory CD Player

Replacing Factory CD Player
Hello Everyone,
Has anyone replaced the factory CD player? Mine appears to be broken.
If so, did you replace it with a factory replacement or with an after-market unit?

TL-Rocket,
hate to say this, but do a search. there was one conversion that I can recall from 07 or 08 that was used to replace in 06 i belive.
the user wanted to have mp3 function, so he replaced the mechanism. If I recall that correctly.
personally I do not use cd that much. so not sure the life span on it.

There are several options you have.
1.) You can get the CD player repaired by an Acura dealer, which will cost between $200-$300.
2.) You can get the CD player replaced for a price. A brand new player might run you $700-$900 if you are not under warranty. You can get a new CD player off eBay for $150 and install it yourself. I looked into getting the CD player from a TL into my Accord, so I know those prices.
3.) You can replace the CD player from an 07-08 TL, which has Dolby ProLogic II and MP3 capabilities. That will be more expensive than option II.
4.) You can go aftermarket. I did this in my Accord and love it.

Refering to the second option, does the $700 - $900 reflect the dealer price to remove and install a brand new unit? Is the CD player just the CD Deck of the entire TL entertainment center - or does it contain additional circuitry vital to the entire TL entertainment / communication complex?
Would a CD player from eBay be a true legitimate Acura replacement part that didn't say "fall off the back of a truck"?
Refering to option three, I suppose I could do an eBay search for an '07 / '08 unit in hope of finding a better price.
Refering to option four, I'd like to go aftermarket, but I'm concerned that I would loose the vast TL central management capability (entertainment, communication and navigation). This penalty may be worthwhile if I were to receive vastly superior audio in the exchange.
Anyway, thank you very much for enumerating the options available based on your research and experience.

Refering to the first option, you mentioned that I could get the CD player repaired by an Acura dealer; Does that mean that I would remove the CD unit myself and bring it to them? Would they send the unit to a CD repair shop?
No. They would do a remove and replace. They take out the old unit and put in a new radio. You could remove it if you wanted to save some labor charges, but Acura is probably going to want to know that it is in fact broken.

May include labor, but I would not count on it. The CD player is an integrated unit, meaning the CD player outputs the signal to a separate amplifier for the 5.1 surround sound and then connects to the five speakers and a sub. You could go on eBay and find a perfect replacement part, no problem. It just has to say OEM or new or is guaranteed to work in the auction.

That would be sweet.

You may receive better sound, but it won't be VASTLY superior to what you have already. I don't have a TL, but I've heard the TLs sound system, and I love it. The best thing you could do if you wanted to keep the stock system are to upgrade your speakers, THEN get a JL Audio Cleansweep unit, and then maybe an amplifier.
Anyway, thank you very much for enumerating the options available based on your research and experience.
You're welcome!

If you have navi, going aftermarket will be tough since you will loose quite a few functions and probably the navigation voice.
You are fine with a radio from ebay as long as you get the radio security code along with the radio.

i replaced mine with an aftermarket one but it is pricey. i paid $450 to have the aftermarket radio installed with a custom kit, the steering wheel controller interface and the ipod adapter wired from the radio to the center armrest. i'm thinkin bout sellin my 06 factory radio thats in good condition.

Does the base 07-08 TL and Type-S have the same system? and is the Dolby ProLogic in the TL the same as in the new MDX? I really want this for my TL and I think I'll just pull it from a junk yard or something

Putting it into the TL isn't that easy, esp if you have navi.

I feel your pain bro ^! My cd player just stopped playing a cd in mid-song and started messing up something horrible!! Once the cd is in, it doesnt read it and everything starts going nuts. It wouldn't eject or let me select any other functions with the audio system. My speakers even turn off.. I turn the car on and off and the radio will work and i can eject the disk, but it all happens again if i try to load another cd. Have any of you ever heard of anything similar?? I have no idea whats up with it! I think I might just look into gettin another unit from ebay and having someone install it...

WOW - weird, the EXACT same thing happened in my late build 04 TL. I have the extended warranty so i took it to the dealer, who in about 5min said "yup, you def need a new radio/cd player." So i am going in to get that replaced this week, the new one came in about 2 days. The dealer did mention that it was a good thing i had the warranty, said it might be as much as $1000 with labor to replace that thing. Seems like its the CD player portion of the unit that burns out, radio still works fine.

The exact same happened to my little brother's 04 TL Navi. I read thorugh various threads and I believe like many others his CD player is dead and the dealer will probably charge 800+ to get it repair.
So now my questions is, if I'm trying to find a replacement on eBay that would only leave me to purchase for an entire Navi console to replace his fault unit? I believe the whole unit is connected? Or is it possible to purchase a non-navi unit and rip the CD player drive from it and replace my brother's cd player in his Navi console? assuming all the wiring can be reuse. Any help is greatly appericated, I left the Acura community for too long, not really familiar with it now.
