Replaced Navigation: Français?

My 06 TL navigation broke (kept rebooting. I suspect it was a memory problem). The dealer replaced with a new navigation system. I noticed two differences:

1) My OK screen now includes a "Français" button. (merci beacoup)
2) I can not get any of the 'XM' voice commands to work.

There are probably more.

Could I have received a Canadian navigation system? If so, is there no XM option in Canada? (Quel dommage!)

I'm asking you first before I take it back to the dealer so I will know the proper resolution.

Thanks,
MG

Very possible that you got the Canadian model. It makes sense. There is no XM in Canada until next year, I believe.

Sounds like your nav is not set to US mode. It can easily be changed by accessing the "secret" maintenance mode (or whatever you call it). Do this by allowing the nav to boot up, and hit the OK button to enter nav mode. Now press and hold the MAP, MENU, and CANCEL buttons for a few seconds and release. It will bring you into a setup menu. Go to the NAVI SYTEM (the first tab) and it will show a CHANGE to US box. By pressing this on screen button it will change back to US and I think reboot on its own. Then you should lose the FRENCH button on the startup screen and XM should be back.

Good luck,

Mark

Fantastic. That was the trick. It's now in the US mode and the XM voice commands work. Also I know how to switch it back so my daughter can practice her Franch.

Merci Mark!

I was going to say that the voice commands probably did work initially,,,, you just weren't speaking the right language..

However, one would have thought your dealer would have set it properly for you Next time you see them let them know they missed a step in the R & R process...... Wankers!

I take it you're from Canada? Otherwise, how in the world could a dealership allow your car out of the shop set up that way!

No. I am in Texas about as far as you can get from Canada and still be in North America. I'll send a note to the service manager about (pronounced 'A-Bout') this error.

That is amazing. It really is. The tech that worked on your car needs some help....or a job at Toyota....
