Replace touch screen?

Help! My touch screen broke on my 04 TL. Wife borrowed the car and she said she "pushed it too hard" and it broke. I think that means she was lost and started banging on it. Everything else works - the screen is fine. So what I have is the inability to use the touch functions and a series of "cracks" that just muddy up the waters when trying to see it.

Is there a way to replace just the screen, or even better just the "touch" part? Dealer wants $3K to replace. They also suggested maybe filing an insurance claim, although I'm not really sure if thats something that would be covered.

TIA
Mike

check acuraoemparts.com

$3k would be the whole system it sounds like; the screen should be cheaper - also look on ebay..

can you post an actual picture of the broken screen, if you are lucky, the cable may have been disatached or cut, which can be fixed easily, but it requires some patience. Also 3K is the price of the screen itself, and not everythiing else because it is a single only part and cannot get a bulk discount. As for the ones on ebay, go for it, but you will end up with alot of extra parts.

Doesn't sound like the dealer is out of line.

As csmeance said, it's a whole unit - about $2500 here:

Ouch.

Good luck with finding the part. Once you do, you'll be able to find instructions on here on how to access and replace the screen. You can save yourself some money and replace it yourself. Check out the 3G Garage/FAQ for instructions on how to access the head unit. Again, good luck!

Mike, is your car still under warrenty? if it is, isn't that covered under warrenty... you can replace just the screen all 3rd gen TL share the same screen (the 07 or later model have different connectors, otherwise, everything else is the same). I have a thread that I took apart the HU, look it up... it is very easy to replace the screen... you just need to pry out a few trims and top vent... $3k is a bit steep for the price... I guess they're quoting you the labor also... but if you look around you might be able to find some good deal on the crashed TL w/ navi...

Warranty isn't going to cover abuse. He'll have a tough time convincing the dealer that the screen cracked on its own.
