Replace 04-06 Navi with 07-08 Navi?

Has anyone replaced their 04-06 navigation system with the newer 07-08 system?

My 04-06 navi system has crapped out for the second time and I have the ability to get my hands on the 07-08 navi for fairly cheap. However, I don't want to buy it all if I can't make it work. I can't seem to find anything on AZ, but I'm wondering if anyone did the swap successfully?

My biggest reason for going the 07-08 route, is that I could keep buying update discs, where as Acura stopped making them for the 04-06 system, back in 2014.

Im not interested in adding a tablet, as most installs looked like horrendous hack jobs from the back, and result in half the buttons on the dash not working. It's also not exactly a selling feature, unless another modder picked up the car. I'd rather keep my potential buying market as big as possible if/when I decide to sell one day.

So yeah... What will it take? Has anyone done it? Are all the connectors the same?

I will give him a shout, but I have feeling he might tell me to pound sand.

I Should add, I know the 07-08 navi has stuff that wouldn't automatically work with an 04-06 TL, like traffic, but I'm ok with that. Sounds silly, but my car never had it and I'd actually prefer not adding it in. Keep it as original OEM as possible. Except that I can keep updating discs until Honda stops making the white disc.

All I want is the bare minimum to be able to run the white disc.

I'm not sure what differences there are between the connectors, etc and I can certainly understand the hesitation towards a tablet install.

One thing you could try is to compare pictures of the backs through Google images, ebay listings, or other for sale ads and see if they look identical. It won't say for sure if the wiring is the same, but Honda tries to limit how many versions of the same product there are to keep costs down. They could be plug & play with the exception being that some pins are missing from your connectors, or your wire harness is missing some connectors (for any of the added features, like live traffic etc), which may not cause any functionality issues.

But as you said, they no longer offer the 04-06 updates and the 07-08 updates are likely to stop soon as well (especially since all of today's Honda/Acura models have Hard Drives and no longer use DVDs).

Unfortunately, your most cost-effective and convenient option is probably to find a used 04-06 unit.

The 07/08 navigation drive is a plug and play replacement.
Buy the new drive, remove and replace old drive.

That's it?!

Nothing else needs to be changed? I figured that might be the case, but I wasn't sure.

The '07/8 screen is also different. It has slightly higher resolution, so that'll have to be swapped out too.

How did things go with the navi swap from the 04-06 to the 07-08 unit? I was considering doing that myself after reading this post!
