I received my renewal notice a couple of weeks ago (my service expires 12/5). Thinking I would need to go through the entire dance routine, I called today to cancel. When asked for a reason why, I told the customer service agent that while I like the service, I can't afford or justify the proposed price increase.

I was offered the $77 annual renewal deal on the spot, along with a quarterly option. I was also offered the same deal for my 2nd radio, saving me a few sheckels each month. Additionally, I was credited for the 8 days of service remaining on my current contract.

Not sure what the hell is going on, but every time I call that number on the 1st page, it asks for my xm ID, zip, says its going to transfer and I get disconnected...

Joerockt - just call the regular XM number (800-967-2346). But be prepared to wait on hold for a good 10 - 15 minutes.

Forgot to mention, the only dumb thing about reactivating is that you have to leave the radio on for 20 minutes and I have to do it within 3 hours. Well Im at work, dont really have anywhere to go for the next 3 hours...Not sure what happens if I dont do this...

So if you have XM in the car and Also a Home Theater Receiver at home do you have to get 2 subscriptions?

I think it's up to 20 minutes. Mine took less than 5 min to finish.

nothing happens, thats the point...but all you will have to do is call again when you have access to your car so they can refresh it...its kind of like your cable box...

I did the same thing. Just before it was going to expire, I called to tell them I didn't want it to renew automatically and was going to let it expire. When they asked why, I told them I didn't use it that much and didn't want to pay $144 a year for something I didn't use much.

They gave me the half-off ($77) deal.

Got $77 deal. My free trial subscription (from used 06 TL purchase) runs out end of December. Because of potential merger, was afraid deal would collapse if delayed. So I told them I just wanted to get $77 deal as I had gotten letter offering this. 30 days left on trial. Got very pleasant woman in Virginia (Before I got India, hostile) She wanted credit card for payment, not monthly deal mentioned before. Will charge to card AFTER trial runs out.

Very pleased with deal. Thanks! AcuraZine!!

Note added in proof to last message. She did NOT ask for the magic word, Zwinback. No code word, only car radio code needed.

I got the $77 and the "family plan" on my second car for 6.99 a month ($84 a year). However, the first time I called the lady told me I was going to get this same deal noted above and then gave me a 3 month deal on one car ($15) and a 6 month on the other ($54). I called back and got somebody who sounded like they knew what they were doing in Canada (the first person who screwed it up sounded like a 70 year old lady in the deep deep south). Moral: Just call back until you get a non-moron and you as the customer will always get what you want.

Re-Up

I just re-upped for a second year in-a-row with the $77 deal by following the script. Basically called the main XM number 1-800-967-2346. Chose option "Billing"
And told operator(woman with Indian accent) that I wanted to let both radios run out as I just received a auto-renewal notice. She transferred me to another rep who had an American accent and he looked up my info and while he did that, I mentioned that the current prices are too high for me to renew.

He said he could offer me the same "half-price" deal on my main radio ($77). My other radio runs out on 12/31./ I'm gonna try and take that down to the wire and then get the 3 months free (which runs out I think on 12/31). Either way, a second radio is $6.99 no matter what, so no loss wither way.

I just reactivated my XM Radio for the 2nd year in a row....

Just follow the instructions/script and it works like a charm. They didn't ask for a promotion code and she knew to waive the reactivation fee.

Best Deal Yet maybe

My XM expired 2 days ago. So after reading the messages on this board I called 866-4097096 and told them that mine had expired and I had received a flier for $19.95 for 5 months. I said I had mis placed the flier. I never had received one. After she checked my account she said that she will do that. The catch with that deal is you go on automatic $12.99 after the 5 months (but you can cancel anytime). She then asked for my credit card. I told her I wanted to be billed monthly. She said that if I paid with a credit card I would get a refund of $12.99. So basically I am getting XM for $7.00 for the next five months (19.99-12.99)!!!!...Try it ....it was very easy.....

Thank you to others for posting. I leaned well.

Thumbs up Another success...

Just wanted to post another success story. My new TL-S had its XM subscription expiring sometime later this month, and so I decided to call today and see what I could get done (before trying the whole cancel thing.)

I had about a 5 minute wait with the static-ridden christm...I mean holiday music, and finally spoke with an american female customer service rep. She sounded young and when she asked how she could help me I explained my service was running out and I was wanting to take advantage of the $77 for 12 months promotion (which I of course never received). She said she would be glad to give me the deal, got my credit card info, and signed me up. I opted out of the Traffic piece, which was going to be an additional $44/yr - not really that expensive but I honestly don't get that much out of it. Perhaps I'll regret it and add it back in later...

She also said I would be auto-renewed next year but would get a notice first. I wasn't keen on this but in order to change I would have to be transferred to another department. She said they would send out a notice before so I'll just plan on making this an annual chore.

She did mention that this promotion was once per radio ID - is that true? Seems like I've read a lot of people saying they've done this multiple times. I'm sure its part of /their/ script to say that, regardles...

Anyhow, thanks to everyone here for passing on the savings! XM for that price is well worth it!

Cheers,

Kevin

Thumbs up

Just called and got the $77 a year deal with no issues at all! My 3mo. free subscription just ended a few days ago, so I just called and followed the script. The XM rep (who sounded like he was in a room with 5,000 other people on the phone) said he would re-activate my account with that deal.

The whole process took literally like 4 minutes!! Thanks to all that have posted about this wonderful tip to a great deal!!

I just called to cancel my auto renewal. They offered a 20% discount off the regular price. We said, Nope. Too expensive. They then offered the $77/ year. Okay, sign me up. This is my fourth year at the discount price. My wife had re-upped her XM on her TSX a couple months ago, but they would only offer a 6 month deal. While this guy, tonight, was so agreeable, she got him to add a year on to hers at $77. They said it was a Christmas promotion.

Called in today...

I forgot to cancel my auto renew so I was billed for 1 month @ 12.95 before I remembered.

Called they offered me the $198 a year deal told them that was way to expensive and if I couldn't be on the same plan I was on last year I would have to cancel.

The lady looked up some info said I was on a special promotion, took a min and said she found the promotion but didn't know if it would work (yeh right). The system took it and she said is was coming up as $66 for the year.

She added my auto renew portion of one month that I used for $12 so I got it for $78.

Not bad

Now you might try following the instructions... assuming you want XM radio.

So chalk up another one to the 77.00 club :-)
I will say though that it was not an easy sell. I really had to push the issue and tell them that I will leave XM if they could not accommodate that price. The CSR insisted that this will be an exception but granted the price for another year nonetheless.
So I figure I will cross this bridge once again one year from today!

Merry Christmas All!!

Just looked at my amex. They auto renewed me for 2 years at $271.95 about 10 days ago. I called, gave them winback, and got them to credit back $191.00 to my card for the one year, so it looks like they charged me for 1/2 a month at the $11.95 charge? (I am in the last 12 months of my lease - so I only need one year anyway). So it still works. She didn't even bother to tell me that it was expired. I just told her I wanted the $77 deal for Acura owners that my dealer sold me on. I wonder if I could have just NAMED my price? ;-). She said I get the credit within 3 days. She said I had to call back to cancel the auto renew. Why won't they just set it us as NON-Renew? Annoying. So, 12 more months of my TL, then the TL-S... yummy!

I am not sure if I want to get XM yet, even at the price, but I thought I'd let you all know that this deal is still real.

Last night, I got a flyer saying 1 year for 77 dollars. So if you want it, you should be able to get that price without a problem

I received a flyer in the mail for $77/month. The savings code was my 8-digit radio ID..........Interesting. I ended up receiving a phone call from XM and they offered me the same $77/month so I went with that. I guess they really wanted my business again.

I got a card in the mail, 'Come back to XM' (expired 1-2 months ago, I was in no rush to renew). '$4.99/month for three months'.

I called, asked 'how much is it per month AFTER the 3 months?' - $12.95 or so - yuk! Can I cancel after the 3 months? Yes, she said. Then she said, without me asking, you can also pay $77 for the year. So I did it. Easy, no pressure!
